:thankyou: This grouping concept methid, looks faster for the bigger numbers. Thank you so much.
Hi24hr-mum:
how to do:
A a fun fair, a bonus of 2 stickers was awarded for every 6 stickers won. Sam collected a total of 35 stickers. How many stickers did he actually win?
The model ans is 27 but it seems wrong.
use grouping concept ...
6 stickers won + 2 bonus stickers --> 8 stickers
ie for every group of 8 stickers won, there are 2 bonus stickers
35/8 = 4R3 --> 4 groups + 3 stickers
4 groups x 2 --> 8 bonus stickers
So, number of stickers actually won --> 35 - 8 = 27
cheers. -

Agree agree agree. Tuition centres does not really cater to our needs. They come up with standard or challenging question papers and mostly following them without giving more importance to whether the kids understand. Sigh. -

Alvin paid $26 for 4 books and 3 pens.
John paid $1 less than Alvin for 3 books and 5 pens.
What was the total cost for 1 book and 1 pen?

3 books and 5 pens + $1 - 26
Therefore the price of 1 book is equivalent to 2 pens + $1
4 books is equivalent to 8 pens + $4
Therefore 11 pens -$26 -$4 =$22
1 pen - $2 and 1 book - $5
1 pen and 1 book cost $7 -
