2012 PSLE Discussions and Strategy

I don't think we need approval to write half page or with double spacing. As to which is better, will ask my dd to discuss with her teachers. The same apply to compo too.[/quote]Ok..I say that because some exams I have taken before specifically say to leave one line spacing etc... I cannot remember what PSLE instructions are like anymore...too far away...
Can you confirm with the teachers if this is allowed in PSLE? I think these are better approaches to correction tape as well.ksi:

Correction tapes are not allowed for good reasons.
I was discussing this with dd the other day. The problem sums questions are usually one question per page. We discussed whether to write her workings on half page only and in the event of cancellation, she has the other half page to write her revised workings. Or to write her writings with 1.5 or double line spacing and in the event of alteration, she can cancel the affected areas and rewrite on those spacing.

Wow, you reread the whole thread? Still bochap, but the teachers have been giving a lot of past year exam papers since term 3, so he has been busy most of the days. I am8228:
My ds will take his PSLE next year. His weaker subjects are English and Chinese. The biggest challenge for me is his bochap attitude. I am worried but he does not seem to care.
this was one year ago. hope now no more bochap
that I don't have to push him anymore.

A friend told me that his dc will not be going to school after PSLE. There are still 6 weeks of school after PSLE. What will the P6 students do? Is it ok not to go to school?

For me, I'll gladly let DS go Sch after PSLE. First he can spend time with his classmates b4 they separate their ways. Think they probably will have some ad-hoc activities. Most important of all, I'll still have some free time

Some schools do organise short trip for P6 students. I believe the children are allowed to play in class. I remembered I did that after PSLE, everyday.
I think most of the schools leave it to the children whether they want to go to school. My DS told me he'll definitely go cos that is the time he can really enjoy playing with his friends.

My dd school will organise enrichment activities for the students. The students will also organise their graduation party. They may go for short trip too. Think last year cohort went for a trip. Sounds fun!

Most schools do not encourage the use of correction tape, but MOE also does not specify that correction tape cannot be used during PSLE time. To be exact, between being very untidy and squeezing in writing that cannot be read clearly vs using correction tape and making it tidy, I would gladly prefer my kid to do the latter. Esp. so for boys and an untidy compo will definitely irk the marker. Compo being more subjective for marking will end up costing the kids marks if marker is unable to read clearly.
I discourage my kid to use correction tape extensively in PSLE, but ask him to exercise discretion in using. Didn’t we all use correction fluid during our PSLE / O Level / A Level time? I do not think MOE marker will penalise a kid using correction tape. However, make sure you buy the good quality correction tape that will be "tear off" and asked your kid to make to fill up the blanks clearly.
This is my personal opinion. Though the school told them discourage the use of correction tape, my kid was allowed to bring in correction tape to the PSLE. Some of his classmates did not bring and was surprised to know that school did not stop those who brought along. -

Thanks Pen88n for highlighting this. I have just confirmed with my dd's teacher that it is indeed not a policy. The schools and teachers are discouraging the use of correction tapes and correction pens. She said that beside forgetting to write the amended answer after using the correction tape or correction pen, the un-dried correction may stick to the other page. Most schools do not encourage the use of correction tape, but MOE also does not specify that correction tape cannot be used during PSLE time. I understand where the school is coming from, but the reasons given are not totally accurate either. Nowadays, the kids do not use correction pen, they use correction tape. Those good quality correction tape is dried very quickly and they write amendments on the blank immediately after that - so likelihood of forgetting to write or having undried correction is rare compared with our time whereby we use liquid paper or correction pen. And if schools / MOE feel so strongly against using correction tape, why not ban that from P3 onwards? Why let the kids get used to having this for years, then ban it for national exams? I really dislike their confusing message.

Agree. I am also trying to ask DS to use sparingly, dun get use to it.

Also, now asking him to find a ballpoint that he likes.....they are used to all those smooth gel pen. Btw, is ball point pen a must?
