Sorry i very sua-ku…what is penmanship books? where to get and how it looks like?

They’re books with lines for kids to practise handwriting (not a normal exercise book). Easily available at bookshops such as Popular.

Need to 请教 parents who have walked the path -


When do we "promote" the child (from writing single alphabets) to writing words?

Must the child start with writing on paper and pencil? Is there a diff if learn writing on white board (placed horizontally on table) using erasable pen?

I can’t really remember when it started.


But I do know I use whatever material I have be it a receipt, a voucher, a napkin n even playdoh to form letters n words for my kids to see, trace n play with.

It can be in the restaurant, in the car, at the supermarket.

Sometimes when bathing, the kids wrote letters n words on the glass door.

It doesn’t have to be formal lesson all times…which can be real boring for the kids.

I find tracing letters with finger fun. Sometimes u write it in the air, the kids will try to recall the stroke(s) n guess letter.

For formal lesson, we used paper n pencil on table (to get the correct posture for writing) n whiteboard.

Hi folks! Want to ask - what kind of eraser do your kids use?


What to do with those erasers which become too small? Just throw away? They can’t be recycled or given a new lease of life?

Handwriting is most important in a student life as well as in our personal life also. So it should be always clear. If your girl’s still cannot changes her bad habit then I think you have to consult with some good handwriting teacher and advised your girl to write handwriting everyday.

How about the way a child holds the pencil… Do we need to insist that they hold the pencil THE correct way?


Ok, you know there is a generally accepted way of holding a pencil. Any deviation from that finger posture, I take it as wrong way of holding a pencil. Is it necessary to correct the child who is learning to write?

i cane my kids last time when they write untidily… this does much help as they are writing nicely and neatly now…

It allows you to inpute your own sentences and then print. FOC. I usually create a short story about things which relate to my child, print and let her practice. She is more motivated to write about things that she is familiar with and in this way I can engage her better.
