If Govt follow like China, 1 week national day holiday.. that'll be good..
You very strange......first feel that kids too many days no school becos of 10th Aug now want 1wk national day hols?
if kids holiday but parent working then of coz no good lor.. kids all alone.. no sch to attend.. and missing lessons.. got difference..
limlim, relax lah, holiday time can let the hair down a little right?

you will have schooling kids too.. soon..
you feel thus way probably because you have schooling kids. Mine is preschooler, being able to on leave anytime I need is far more impt than having 10weeks of leave which I can take only during stipulated period. Who is going to take care of my child if he can't go to cc?
Anyway, I would prefer longer rest althou it is more rigid. You may prefer flexible but significantly less rest days. you are of coz entitled to your preference.. that is absolutely ok.
btw, do note the teacher have 14day AL too, on top of the sch holidays.
of coz, they can't take leave at their whims and fancy, like going on planned holidays..
But if it is urgent cases like what you said, need to look after kids bcoz cc not open etc.. surely the principle would approve.. isn't it? It is already stated on MOE website that teacher have 14days AL (excluding sch holidays) for urgent matters. -

That's another problem with schools.. they like to organise activities during weekdays..In life, you win some, you lose some too.
Have you all thought of the teachers who have school children but yet can't apply leave to attend their child's school activities?
If they can have activities on weekends.. like carnivals, meet the parents etc.. This wouldn't be an issue.. -

Agree, activities are on weekdays; it would be nice to have some on the weekends.

I recall all school weekend activities were removed after our PM avocated the need for work-life balance...for civil services.. -
