Well, if u are a teacher, you'll have another set of complains/reasoning.
That's another problem with schools.. they like to organise activities during weekdays..limlim:

Have you all thought of the teachers who have school children but yet can't apply leave to attend their child's school activities?
If they can have activities on weekends.. like carnivals, meet the parents etc.. This wouldn't be an issue..

I noticed that not many fathers participate in this thread hor? Only Limlim vs the mummies… The rest of the daddies all talk less…

I thought about it but I still prefer lesser but flexible leave.
you will have schooling kids too.. soon..Imami:
you feel thus way probably because you have schooling kids. Mine is preschooler, being able to on leave anytime I need is far more impt than having 10weeks of leave which I can take only during stipulated period. Who is going to take care of my child if he can't go to cc?
Anyway, I would prefer longer rest althou it is more rigid. You may prefer flexible but significantly less rest days. you are of coz entitled to your preference.. that is absolutely ok.
btw, do note the teacher have 14day AL too, on top of the sch holidays.
of coz, they can't take leave at their whims and fancy, like going on planned holidays..
But if it is urgent cases like what you said, need to look after kids bcoz cc not open etc.. surely the principle would approve.. isn't it? It is already stated on MOE website that teacher have 14days AL (excluding sch holidays) for urgent matters.
If i am a teacher, I would feel very obliged to come to school to teach, even if my child is sick. It's the sense of duty as a teacher. I would feel very tone between my child and my job. Being a teacher is not for me... Too much social and moral responsibility.
If they have al, so the school holidays is just \"no need to teach\" only, not no need to work right? If want to go vacation during school holidays, need to apply leave right? -

Not interested.jedamum:
I don't like sch activities on weekends....because weekends have tuition classes to attend!

Oh dear, an opening for limlim :rotflmao:  -
Imami:
I guess.. No. It is \"no need to work\". But they may be called up for duties for some days..

so if they going vacation.. not say need to \"apply leave\" but maybe need to inform the school in advance. But then, maybe teacher can confirm as my info may not be accurate.
Just like NSmen..
When they go overseas, they need to inform Mindef.
edit: AL is 12 days, not 14.

The school year is from January to December each year. There is a total of 12 weeks of school holidays a year. Teachers may be called up for duty during the school vacation.
-

bcoz it is held on weekdays, parents who is keen to volunteer or join the PC for various activities are unable to do so. Seems that even volunteering is a privilege for those who can afford not to work..limlim:

While parents complains that PV favours the rich and PRs who don’t need to work…
I am quite upset that practically all the PC volunteer roles requires weekday commitment. This effectively close the door on parents who needs to work. -

It is the principle that needs to be protected. Once it becomes acceptable to use wkends for certain activities, very soon effort will not be made to make use of available time within wkday and will easily spill into wkends.

Eh, no leh, the PVs fr my school are ordinary pple who work. They apply leave. Even for me a sahm, I still have to find babysitter, no maid to help out. It's not a breeze for me to find time to PV at that time. The school was kind and help all the parents to fulfill the hours. While parents complains that PV favours the rich and PRs who don't need to work..
