        MathIzzzFun, that's a great way. How did u get the idea of duplicating the 4book+3pen equation?

        Using same gap concept, 5pens 3books -- gap of 2, 4 books 3pens -- gap of 1, so double 4 books +3pens to get gap of 2.

        cheers.

                Hi

                How many ways can the 18 squares be cut from the \"unshaded\" part ?
                --> 1 row x 18 squares
                --> 2 rows x 9 squares
                --> 3 rows x 6 squares

                from here, can you figure out the solution?

                cheers.

                    how much does tim hv?
                    R+S = 1183
                    S+T= 1124
                    R+T=961

                    (R+S)+(S+T)=1183+1124
                    2S+(R+T)=2307
                    2S+961=2307
                    2S=1346
                    S=673

                    S+T=1124
                    T=1124-673
                    T=451

                      R + S = 1183
                      S + T = 1124
                      R + T = 961

                      2R + 2S + 2T = 1183 + 1124 + 961 = 3268

                      R + S + T = 3268/2 = 1634

                      R + S + T = 1634

                      1183 + T = 1634
                      T = 1634 - 1183 = $451.
