Thanks twilight, I think I will check with the teacher. I also think so it is not mandatory to take exams every year otherwise the child will feel stressed too.

But on the other hand when I read the guidelines from RAD which I have just posted, it says \" For Examinations, Class Awards, Presentation Classes and Solo Performance Awards, for reasons of safe dance practice, candidates must have achieved the minimum age by *31 December in the year in which the examination takes place, as follows.

      * 1 January from 2013.

Does this mean actually my twin fulfill the requirement? They will turn 7 by Nov 2013.

      twilight:
Ask the teacher if it's possible for them to not do the exams, but still move on to grade 2. I don't think not being age eligible for exams should be a reason to be held up at grade 1, unless the technic is not there. Most teachers should be fine with students not taking exams. If the teacher or you are so adamant about them doing exams for every grade, then there's no way around it.

        😉 I agree

So long the child meet the minimum age requirement and that the teacher has confirmed the child is ready for the exam... just got for it!

Check with the teacher again. After all, the teacher is going to be the one registering them for the exams. If even after she sees that rule, she still thinks they are not age eligible, she’s going to refuse to register them anyway, regardless of what anyone else says.

If you read the RAD website, you will know that the current new syllabus does not allowed the child to skip any grade.

Ok thanks! I think I'm more comfortable for them to take the exams the year after as they will be settling in the new primary school. Thanks once again 🙂

Hmm really? In the newest syllabus specifications, it still says that:
There are no pre-requisites for RAD Graded Examinations. It is not necessary for candidates to have taken the previous Graded Examination (or, for Grade 1, the Primary in Dance Examination) before being entered for an examination.
Only the solo performance award one requires candidates to have passed the previous grade examinations, but that's only offered to grade 1-3 now.
On that note, what's the solo performance award? It's where you dance individually right? So teachers now register students for both graded examination and this solo performance award?

It is in one of the documentations in the RAD website… the one you read it does not show the new syllabus requirement for grade 1 - 3. I will try to look for it and post it here…

Here's the extract from the FAQ documentation:

Must candidates have passed the previous levels of examination in order to enter for any examination?
For Graded Examinations, no. However, from January 2013, entry for Solo Performance Awards at Grades 1-3 will be dependent upon each candidate having passed the previous level Graded Examination (i.e. in order to enter for a Grade 2 Solo Performance Award, the Grade 1 examination must have been passed).

It’s still the same, you don’t have to have passed the previous level for the graded exam. I believe the solo performance awards is an entirely separate exam from the graded exam? Having been doing vocational grades now, I have no clue about all these new requirements. It sounds interesting though. So do students learn new dance for the solo performance award, or is it the same one as the graded exam dance? Or maybe slightly tweaked, like the presentation thing they used to have (maybe they still have it, I’m not sure)?

I'm not a ballet teacher nor ballerina 😄 so I'm unable to comment much. These info are gathered from the RAD website.
