My boy used to do exactly what your boy did- this is what his therapist described as \"side gaze\". It doesn't really affect his normal function, it just doesn't look nice and it often invite curious stares from people who doesn't understand. I also didn't know what to do about it except for constantly \"nagging\" at him not to do that..Anyway, I also don't know what happen, he somehow decided to stop doing that sometime earlier this year

See u can find any funding around if u are low income earner. Get subsidized therapies? If u work somemore, who will be there to practise the therapy work with your son? If u want to see effects from the therapies, u need to practise.

After funding also expensive to me . Kkh is 30+++ per hr. funded , if 2 weekly oso quite siong for me.


Rainbow also I worried they might hinder my son potential …hiaz also, not cheap plus i need to pay transportation fee too…

so really not enuf… any lobang for extra income ?

Why would u be doing twice weekly? U can get so many slots? Anyway, it's not the frequency of the therapies but the diligence of the parents that count. I realise that my son improved when there is higher freq not becoz of the freq, but because I had to make sure I go thru the h/w before I meet them again. When the wait is longer, I get lazier. U can also try writing to moh/cpf board to appeal to use your medisave to pay for the therapies.

If your son’s case is with any hospital, for example, KKH, they could refer you to their social workers to source for some kind of financial support.

I’m not sure how exactly it works, but I understand from friends working in hospital that there is some charity organization or some funds available to help families who have difficulties paying medical bills, you can try asking if such assistance is also available to the ASD related therapies.

I'm sorry that you have financial concerns on top of everything else, but just want to encourage you to do as much for your son at home as possible. It's perfectly tailored to your son's needs, can be done frequently, and totally FOC. Just learn what you can from the therapists and books, and you can DIY.

As for life skills vs academic skills, at any age, and especially when they are young, life skills are far more important than academic skills. Academic skills can be picked up later once life skills have been learned, but not having life skills will hinder other development, including the academic.

i been working with my son at home cuz no $ for private therapist also kkh therapist long wait.. :(..

and get advise from all mummies here and work on him..

he is now able to imitate adults & even his peers already.. he has widen his awareness... and able to see things in big picture , as compare in Feb 12 time..

I think u should just do it within your means. If u can't afford pte, then stay with subsidized therapies. Pte therapies also don't guarantee will work. Read up more, increase your knowledge. That's what I've been doing. I can only go subsidized therapies and they give me a basic framework on what to do. I then try out different things at home.

Like lately, I started making emotion cards like happy, sad, angry, scared etc. We will then play a ball game. Whoever gets the ball have to share something about what is on the emo card. So eg, we picked happy, everyone will share about what makes them happy. It helps us understand his world and helps him to open up about his feelings.

We are our children's best therapist. Don't have to spend a lot. We just need some guidance to help us to broaden our knowledge. I feel that my son has been coping well under the kkh therapists' care. Sometimes we seemed to be hitting the wall and not moving, but once we find out what works, we just take off. Every kid is different so the same mtds don't work for all kids. Be more patient.
