Thank you so much for the feedback ! I was looking for such post-mortem kind of reflections and feedback. It is quite hard to plough through 60-100 pages to find nuggets of information.

Since many PSLE mom&dad&children are hanging around here now, before holidays and secondary school days keep you busy, I would appreciate if you can share some tips and suggestions about the PSLE experience.


Anything +ve or -ve, pitfalls to avoid or some suggestions about revision pace/schedule, things to do or not to do ? I am not looking for tutors or tution centers that can do magic but just some advice from the been-there-done-that parents.

Hope to have some sharing in the spirit of kiasu-ism, our children will be in different cohorts anyway :lol:

Do everything possible to avoid 'B' in Maths.... Drop in T-Score is horrorndous!!! Not so bad , if language/Science goes to 'B'. Reason, i guess is everyone works very hard on MAths .

Somemore , next year maths will not be as tough.. so added motivation to secure A , evenif child is not so strong in Maths

Why would next year's Maths not be as tough? Good preparation makes Maths easier to handle than leaving things to chance.

Luck plays a part too. If you're unlucky, as my son was, you'd get an oral picture that doesn't make sense. Is it common for primary school kids to have farewell parties for their teachers? NO! So how do they moderate? Did they add 1/2 marks to day2 kids?


Then there's possibility of papers leaked before hand. Refering to the controversy about the chinese compre paper..where some students have seen the paper before while mine hasn't. How does MOE know which kid has done that paper before? How to even moderate then?

So all your 9 years of going for chinese tuition is not gonna help you if you're luckless like mine. His T-score was pulled down by CL, definitely. Haiz.. if he had done the oral on day1 and done the compre before..It's unfair advantage that some kids have over others. :x :frustrated:

So, all the amount of preparation will throw your grades off, albeit slightly. Protest will get you nowhere...you'll only be told again and again that the grades WILL be moderated. So why so gan cheong.

Pardon my ranting, we're over the moon with his results, of course. But because of this, he may've just missed the chance to go back next yr to his primary school to collect his award.

unfair paper aside, the only thing i am always worried about is unexpected events that happen just prior to the paper; eg kid fell sick or other worse stuff (touch wood touch wood); that will surely cause a lot of anguish…

ya…heard 1 kid had diarhoea (?spelling) during science paper yet got an A*. some kids tend to get exam fever. The real kind. :!:

Yeah...better to avoid crowds near to PSLE . Have heard kids collapsing(gastric flu) or feeling terrible during crucial exam time. One very important tip, train your kid to do \"big business\" in the evening. Dont have to worry about \"urge\" during exam time especially when one is feeling so nervous!

Touch wood, but yes, they will still need to sit for the exam, but at the CDC.

On the day of PSLE exam, I think there will be temperature checks before you enter the examination hall (which is air-conditioned). Last year, my dd's friend was found to have fever and was put in a \"special classroom\" where all the other \"sick\" students were, away from the examination hall. They were given masks and have to do exam there without the comfort of air-cond! It was quite uncomfortable. Therefore do try to keep your hygiene standards & immune system \"high\"before exam. Poor gal's mom regretted not making her maid put on mask at home cos maid was coughing before exam!
