Parents, let's solve this problem for our kids

Strparent:
Strparent, I am not being sarcastic. If we as a society have decided that multiple pregnancy (presumably due to fertility treatment), with all it's attendant complications, is meritorious and should be supported, then society as a whole must be willing to share the burden.????? simi pay with taxpayer's money?
3boys, your recent approach to posting cynical sarcasm not typical of u le.....
not bashing here....but this family does have a big problem now.
this is a public forum, no ? :scratchhead:
It should not be down to the other patients or the staff of Gleneagles subsidizing this family, should it?
So I say, MOH pay, and pass the cost on to tax base. It's fine with me, honest. -
By the way, if they went to a public hospital and got the highly subsidized treatment, it is still from MOH funds, aka tax dollars. That’s still ok with me, cheap healthcare, but high taxes. Scandinavian model, as they say.
At the end of the day, we all need to square up to the cost-benefit consideration. Just as long as all don’t say spend here spend there and damn the consequences. -
3Boys:
If they had chosen a govt hospital, I am fine with what you suggested.Nothing to do with the hospital. We should pay for it....with taxpayers money.
But they had chosen a private hospital.. I totally disagree! -

Totally disagree with using public fund to pay for individual's LUXURY by CHOICE.

Use a public hospital.. cannot afford, then public can help. It is not as if they met accident and admitted to nearest hospital which happens to be private. -
limlim:
So in other words, you are saying they ought to bear the responsibility of their decision then?

1. Is Gleneagles the only hospital (or best known) that has experience in multiple births?
2. CDA Account cannot be used for Gleneagles - I would suppose most parents with multiple births would have been concerned with their delivery bills and would have already try to find out more beforehand. It looks like an excuse to me or $ wasn't a concern in the first place.
Personally, I do pity them with the big bill.....but I do think there should be some cap to the help received as I do feel it's a 'luxury by choice'. -
I think we do not have the whole story here. It might be that the parents went to a private OG doctor. So, they had to choose a private hospital for their OG to deliver the babies. If it was an emergency delivery, they may not have fully discussed the costs implications of the various hospitals with their doctors before going to hospital.
But I am just speculating here. -

Me too. Not a good way to start a young family with 4 kids.

agree here. while they did not expect costs to balloon coz of complications and i sympathise, they decided to ward themselves in a private hospital.

Agree.
Unless there is a super valid reason to go private hospital or money not an issue, I would really have planned my resources properly so that I won't end up in such a bad situation that even parents gotta folk out for them.
Let's see more details will be released cos now is speculation why they go private instead of govt.
