MOE Relooking P1 registration - Too much priority to alumni

It also seems that too many good schools are concentrating at one area along Bukit Timah stretch. The plannIng should just disperse them all over Singapore. As expected the priority of SG over PR only make minuscule difference to SG but it does impact PR a lot & as a result it actually further dilute the chances of PR blending with SG which is not gahmen intention? The policy now is at such to chuck them at unpopular schools. Please be mindful that there are very smart PR students which can provide challenge to our kids.

This example cannot be applied to alumni la...an alumni is not a spectator of a show.

But there are similarities..

The performers are the giver, the spectators are the receiver. The schools are the giver, the students are the receiver.

The Show would not have been complete w/o the spectators.. so, the spectators plays a critical role also.. isn't it? When you watch the NDP on TV, did you noticed that many times, the focus is on the audience? if spectator is not important, the camera man would just zoom in on the performances and nothing else. So, spectator make up the show just like students make up the school.

Of coz, the show would have been successful whether who attended the NDP.. Just like the school.. it would have been successful even if the students were ANY OTHER, and not the current alumni. Credits to the management and the teachers.

Hence, why should sleeping alumni be given priority? just like there is no reason for previous NDP spectators any priority to NDP tickets to future NDPs.

For distinguished and recognised alumni.. no dispute.. they deserve the priorities.. so we just focus on the sleeping alumni who does nothing ya..

Give you my own example. I stay within a stone throw from St. Nicks. If I have a girl, would I call for a scrap to all the priorities so that my girl can go to St. Nicks? And then argue \"shamelessly\" that it is all for the good of my girl since it is so near?

Within 1 km of my place, actually there are 2 other primary schools ie. AMK Primary and Mayflower Primary. Both within very reasonable if not walking distance. No stress if I were to register at these primary schools - plenty of vacancies at all phases!

So why should I argue and insist on going to St. Nicks and calling for scrapping and capping those priorities alumni etc.?

Mayflower is not bad. Mayflower's Principal is very supportive of performing arts and has built it up over the years she's there.

Anderson nearby is worth considering too!

Some schools own their own land, hence they are there. Eg. HCI owns their land along Bkt Timah. I'm not sure if NYPS Land is owned by them (there is high possibility), but probably NYGH land might not be owned by them since it was previously occupied by NJC. MGS quite likely owns their land too.

Some of these schools are Govt-aided or even Independent, so they are not totally \"Public\" either.

Perhaps it is useful to know what is the average % that constitutes to Phase 2A&B to warrant so much attention. From my own experience, the % is pretty small so perhaps that is why I am not seeing so much issue because the alumni is not taking up a lot of vacancies.
