Of all my maids, myan maid was my worst. When she was here, she can't do anything. I train like crazy. Gave my child Panadol when child is not even sick, scald my girl's hand with hot soup. When she left, she gave me another round of hell. So I swear I won't look for myan maid anymore.

The best maid of all, is still my Indonesian maid. If I were to put attitude and everything else aside, based on solely the ability to work in a house Indonesian still top my list, follow by Philip maid. This is based on my past experience with my three maids nationality.
I agree with u totally after having 3 mynmars. I like to get indon but am now using a filipina for the time being.

I’ve noticed recently that in the straits times everyday, there is some news of Myanmar, all these changes, in trade, commerce etc. Their education level seems to be very high.

I can’t get over the fact that all the myanmar maids, I’ve met, my own 2, my 2 aunties, one each and some other friends’ maids; have such poor personal hygeine and concept of hygenie when it comes to house cleaning/food preparation etc.

My first one, refused to shower the first 2 nights. In her luggage, she had all these bling bling tees, at least 5 such tees. She a city girl with nice clothes. I kept her on for 3 weeks, I had to beg her to shower and first week, she only showered the 3rd night and alternate nights. She was a pretty girl, like a hong kong movie star.

The 2nd maid, had a Dior Tee, looking at the label, it looks real, with the all the complicated details on the label. She also has a Polo ladies Tee. After shower every night, I stand next to her, she still smells…not body odor. Smells sourish, stale, rancid oily smell. Perhaps she just drag the soap/shampoo over and rinse off without lathering properly to wash herself.

Both of them are really dirty and lazy personally and in their work.

Recently my Aunty told me that she went to check on her maid’s mattress and blanket etc, she was shocked to smell urine on these items and the bed area.

I recently got Indo maid after sending off the myan maid back to myanmar, I’m so glad that my world feels right again. I’m very blessed this time with this ex-sin maid, she understands her place as a maid and does her work as instructed, no big issues so far. Previous years, I’ve had my share of bad indo maids that lasted one month, 3 months etc., they made me very angry.

With Myan maids, it’s different, the situations get so outrageous, they drive you crazy…then they look at you like it’s your fault, like none of their business and you are crazy. Even when you catch them red handed, they can spin such a story and drive you crazy.

They break so many things and never feel shy, they appear to be proud people, so should feel shy and want to do better not to get further scolding right? NO… not the myan maids I know, they seem not capable of learning to clean properly, all highly educated but no concept of hygiene, not shy at all about lacking in hygeine concept. The house/ housewares/stuff just stays dirty, they argue with you that they have cleaned it. You show them the dirt, then they clean again. They go through everyday, hoping that you don’t check on their work.

As I was searching for maids, I think I know why can't find a good maid.

          1. New maid salary is $400 no offday
          2. Ex-Maid with 9 mths experience, salary is $450 with one off day
          3. Ex-maid with 2 years experiene, salary is $500 - $550 with 4 off days

If I were a maid, I will not work hard for my employer at all, after all, after 9 mths I am leaving for another employer who will pay higher and have off day. All transfer cost pay by employer. Agent, just need to keep asking maid to transfer to collect their money.

          Is this fair to employer?
I know... It s a crap world right? But like the last one who wanted a Caucasian family.. No point having high pay and 4 off days monthly.. If they can't do the job, they get transferred and end up sitting at agencies losing sleep wondering if they will get their ideal employer!

If I do send my Burmese maid off, I am off having maids... I hv enough of them... Most of them are not mature enough and forget easily why they have to leave their countries and come to a foreign place away from families to work.

ST2… think u got it wrong , My relatives maid was frm the Uni and she mentioned that their education system is very very low. Sometimes they dnt even complete their term when there is a protest as the universities can close for months to a year so sometimes they just stop studying. Those with high education come frm well to do families and are sent overseas.

My maid took a look my P4 girl's maths textbook and commented it was very difficult to understand. And she graduated in Science in uni there!! She also said the studènts had to buy gifts for the lecturers all the time... Not sure for what though.

Mynamar may have gone through drastic changes now but they had already lost a generation or two through their previous governing and education system. They still have a mountainous task of teaching proper education to the present young generation.

Unless these maids here undertake proper skills upgrade here, they will still find it hard to find office jobs when they go back. I told my maid not to waste her off days chit chatting with her so called friends and use the time to upgrade her English and computer skills. But I don't know if she has paid any heed to my words. I told myself if she comes to me with the courses, I will pay for one course fees to get her started. But so far nothing... 😓

I remembered reading an English newspaper in BKK when Aung San Suu visited an area mainly occupied by burmese ppl who fled their country long ago. They asked for help to ensure their safe return to Mynamar and said they have had a very hard life in Thailand. She told them to be patient and to obey the rules of their host country. She wanted them to be useful citizens for Mynamar and bring back their skills to re build their country. Though I purposely bought the papers back for my maid to read... but I think no effect on her. It is their mentalities that need an overhaul.

How many times I try to go without a maid, but it does not work for me. As the rest of the family members is not doing their parts. I have 3 kids and one aged mother, plus a \"king\" husband at home.

I was told that the school teachers did not teach them anything in school. If they really want to learn, they need to pay extra tution. I was told that the teachers learn their living thru these extra tution.

My present maid now is learning Pr1 Math and English. She already find very hard. But this maid is willing to learn type, she is now asking for story books to read too.

My 2nd myan maid always remind me that she’s from the city, not farmer, she is working as maid to save money for uni to study chemistry. She is very proud that all children go to school at 5 yrs old. My aunty’s maid graduate from Uni said the same thing. At the maid agency, at least 40 % bio-data are graduates. They should not be allowed as maid import for us then.

I guess these maids just think they are high and mighty because they study more and from the city, without realizing their educational system standards is low. I was wondering why educated and have such filthy habits.

                    Hi Fatty Mum
There are many industries in Singapore that employ myan, I’ve been served by them in Robinsons, some other retail shops, restaurants, hotels and I know some of them working as accountants, as professionals. The maids maybe here to look see only and will leave and come back for those jobs if they can get them.

I would not pay to educate them while already paying salary to suffer their nonsense and lousy house keeping, lodging them, feeding them.

My myanmaid tried to hack my laptop, I caught her and she admitted.

                      Hi st2,
U serious abt them working in retail too? Oh dear I have never been served by any at Robinsons... I always think service at Robinsons and Tangs are really great compared to other places... Was there yesterday... 😉

Sometimes I thought I shld give back to the underprivileged as it s really not their fault they had to live in such conditions back home. But I will now re consider any decisions that requires me to fork out my hubby's hard earned money on them. They probably won't appreciate my gestures. Life just hv to continue being dusty and dirty til her contract is over or she decides to leave. With 3 kids, I know it will be darn tough to handle everything but I will hv to try coz king hubby won't do anything except watch tv or play WII w the older kids.

st2, u shld tell your princess maid that u r also from city but u hv to work as a maid to her non performing chores despite she being paid for it!! Tell her grass always greener on the other side of fence... But grass on the other side may have snakes and poison ivy!!

                        Hi Fatty Mum

I’ve seen several of them at Robinsons Shoes dept, at Raffles and centrepoint, last year and early this year. Their name tags have the distinct myan names, female and male. I think also in URS or Hush puppy shops also.

That ex myan maid; after loan paid off, told me that her sister is coming to sg for a hotel job, her brother is journalist, her cousin already here for maid job and her other relatives coming so she needs to have hp. I told her that contract states no hp, no off day and I let the agency speak to her on speaker phone. 2 days later, she told me she’s not happy, want to go back myanmar. Good riddence to bad rubbish, I sent her home.
