Has anyone visited Tasmania?
yes. it is like a mini new zealand
places to visit in Hobart include salamancha market (on saturday morning), the hotel at the peak gives you million dollar view of the city, chocolate factory just out of the city, port arthur the penal colony, cradel mountain (must book early if you want to stay at the lodge there), cataract gorge, launceston, tamar valley (nice drive), west coast etc....one week is more than enough to do things slowly.
tasmania is tagged as the 'holiday isle' of oz, the local treats it as retirement village - the rich old man from melbourne and sydney retires there / or part time there -
loved that place especially Cradle Mountain, the trekking was fantastic !

Yes, did it last Nov/Dec. 13D Self-drive with 3 adults, 2 elderlies and 2 kids, 5 and 9 years old. We travelled around the island, flying into Devonport and out from Hobart. It was a great trip and my kids are still talking about it. They are wondering when are we going again
It's a great place with lotsa activities. What I really love about it is the fresh air and food, natural scenery and beauty, and diverse activities. That being said, the old people have some problem with the food and there is lotsa of walking cum trekking wherever you go. Bring very solid and comfortable walking shoes! I also love the lack of crowd...
When do you plan to go? How long would your trip be? -

NZ is huge by comparison. But Tasmania has its own beauty, wine trail, seafood, nature ..... many places are named after Bible places -

Self drive or free & easy is a good way to travel around in Tasmania. If free & easy, you can also book tour with the hotels though a little more expensive. A very easy to go around.
If you have young kids, you can bring them to the Cadbury Choc factory. Fun and good educational tour
