Personally, I find it rather strange to leave the decision of accepting a CO after the PSLE. It seems unfair for those who have more than 1CO to hold up the rest waiting in line. Also, if a child finds the PSLE tough, he or she simply falls back on the CO while the rest who do not have any CO will have to sweat it out and hope for the best.

Moreover, those who have CO may have less incentive to do their utmost best for the PSLE but will still have the CO to fall back on even if their PSLE results turn out not that good.

If a CO has to be confirmed before PSLE, the child has to decide whether to accept his or her 'dream' school. If the CO is not for the dream school, then it should be given up to those who consider it their 'dream' school. Then this child who gives up the CO will have to work hard to get into his or her dream school.

This will level the playing field, but just my humble opinion.

As I know, SST has to have confirmation of whether to accept the CO before PSLE. I think they recognise all the problems for holding back the COs.

      Agree !!

Currently, DCs with COs or WLs have more than 2 months from now till 22-27Oct to decide on their DSA choice. Our DC can choose only one CO, why do we need 2 months to make their choice? The fact that the application process started in May wouldn't it have given anyone ample time to make the choice by the time results were released in Aug?

Maybe parents whose kids have more than one CO and are debating over which one to go to, or have a CO from their second choice school and are debating whether or not to take it up would appreciate the extra time to think it through and not stress over it before PSLE? Not everyone has a clear idea of which school they want to go to, based on the posts on this thread.
Because there is a choice of more than 1 CO thus the need for more time? If through a centralised allocation of CO by choice of priority indicated upon application, there wouldn't be the need to choose anyway.

Imagine S1 posting released results that our DC is allocated to more than one school !?!
An interview is a 2-way process, just like any job interview. During the interview, DC might gain further information that may change his mind on his preferences, or it could be the manner in which the interviewer behaved or how the interview or DSA process was conducted. So prioritizing on application is not fair to the child... Is just like before an interviewee attends job interviews, the interviewee ranks his choices and is not allowed to change his mind. The decision then lies entirely with the interviewer. Does not sound right, right?
Does a job offer wait two months for you? If you have more than 2 job offers and required to take up only one within a week, would you still need to wait 2 months to make that decision?

I dont intend to atagonise anyone here but just my share of beliefs.
Actually I've had job offers with no deadline given for a decision...but that is :offtopic:

Normally in the adult working world, a deadline to respond to a job offer is given mainly due to a need to fill a vacancy urgently. However, in this instance, the interviewer is a Sec school that only needs to fill up its vacancies, perhaps by the end of the year. So, there is no need to further stress the children by making them choose before PSLE. I, for one, am appreciative that the current MOE system takes into account the stress factor that our 12 year olds have to experience for their 1st national exam.

No system will be perfect or please everyone. I think I might prefer the release of CO / WL / R after the PSLE, so that the kids would not be demoralized if it's negative news....but I think a lot of long-necked KPs here will :spank: :heresmyfish: me!

If the DC has more than 1 CO and has already made up his mind, then rejecting the other COs would be the honorable thing to do. After all, his parents have experienced the stress of waiting and doing so, will bring certainty to another earlier. However, if the DC has not made up his mind, then asking him to make a crucial decision ( perhaps his first in his life ) that will affect his life for the next 6 years, during the stress of preparing for his 1st national exam, seems cruel.

From my experience, I regret speaking to my DS about the VS offer and having a discussion about the pros and cons, during his prelims. (However, the time given was short and it had to be done during the prelims ). As a parent, I had added on to the stress that my child was facing during his exams. :stupid: Whilst I won't know for sure what caused DS to fall ill the next day, I cannot rule out that the additional stress might have contributed to it. :yikes:

So yes, I feel the need to speak up, just in case, MOE is tuning in this thread.

No, I hope not to antagonize anyone. We can agree to disagree, right? :hugs:

hi KSmom8, envious you have a job offer that waits for you indefinitely. :imcool:

the current system seems like the \"rich getting richer\". not sure if this is a good one.

            Hi Jtoh,

My son is on the WL of VS. They said will inform us if there is a place for my son on 28/08, and did not invite us to the following briefing. If my son won’t get the CO on 28/8, he will be taken away from the WL or not?
I want to know the WL is a kind of offer or not? Those pupils on the WL should be invited to the school briefing as same as CO? Those pupils on the WL should received a hard copy of offer or not?
If we put the WL of VS as our first choice and is converted to CO on the PSLE result day. Assuming my son’s result is below their COP, then my son will be put into O level or IP program?
            Thanks very much.

That was when I was working many years ago. Now, after years of happy unemployment, will be lucky to have job offer, lah! If lucky to have job offer, 100% suffer pay cut and \"demotion\". That's reality of life. :offtopic: Sorry!

As for now, it still shows \"Pending.\" :xedfingers:

My daughter also got provisional offer from RGS. It is neither in email or letter. Received phone call from RGS explaining this offer. It is not even considered a WL. RGS explained that we have to think very carefully as to accept this offer means that we have to give up all our other DSA offers and take part in the Sec 1 posting after the PSLE results are released. If you take part in the DSA option form at the end of October, then this offer is withdrawn.

It is a tough decision especially when you receive COs from other schools, if it is WL, still not so bad as there's still chance you may not get a CO. So please think very carefully. Not many will throw away a CO and hope to score 235 to get into RGS.

As for my DD, we are still awaiting the results of our other DSAs before we consider further.
Wow, it looks like RGS is not to strive for \"Excellent at ALL cost.\" I suppose your DD is one of best in her sports. Typically, at this level of sports, she has to train at least four times a week, letting her already less time comparing to other students.

Depends on individuals, I do have friend' DD who excels both in academic and sports. If she is not so academic inclined, she will surely be very stressful in RGS. Pray for wisdom to decide !

BTW, has anyone received WL from RGS?

I agree! Need to think very carefully! RGS is her dream school and I like the fact that this has not disappointed her too much. In fact, she told me that she wants to study harder and try to get higher score. So I've nothing to complain here.

On a different note, my DD is not at the top of her sport, which is probably why RGS did not CO her. In fact, we know of previous years where girls whose results are lower then my DD also got COs because they are at the top of their sport. So I guess RGS also want girls who are not only top top in academic but also top top in sports for them to even consider offering COs.

That's why competition so stiff in RGS. 😄
