A Steinway and sons upright costs 70k

I think this price is for grand piano even for brand of steinway. For yamaha c3 grand piano, price is less than 40k.

Even I can afford it for choice no. 3, I doubt if it is worth doing that . After all piano is just a hobby, very few of our kids will make it as life career

I think that's precisely the point. If the teacher is talking about developing Puzzle's DD as a performing pianist, someone who performs on the piano for a career, then yes I can understand the need for a grand piano at home. But if it's just a hobby, then, a bit excessive.

I cannot believe that EVERY student at NAFA at diploma level owns a grand.

I had the impression most students & parents in Nafa are very very serious. Doubt they view piano as mere hobby. That's why parents are willing to invest in grand pianos and students plough in many hours of practice.

If plain hobby, no need to choose Nafa to 'suffer' hardship

I think that's exactly the kind of discussion Puzz..zle should be having with her DD. Is it just a hobby?

We are sure that we won’t choose this as career. Sometimes we do ask what are we going to do with the cert after DD persuade her studies, then her career in others field??

Then I won’t bother with the grand piano, or worry that other kids with grand pianos (who are probably seriously thinking about it as a career) continue to play better. But I would probably continue until she decides she’s had enough or gets kicked out.

I think I will quit , and probably do it at a lot earlier stage such as Grade 5 or Grade 3

We quit after 1 semester :siam:

My dd is learning from another nafa teacher as private student.
                      Substantially less 'suffering' 😉

                      For us, it's definitely hobby.
For my dd, she thinks she's going to be a musician (not pianist) so piano provides the relevant foundation.

Good thing DD does not have the same NAFA teacher 😉 .
