I understand that there is a new principal at Montfort. Would someone please comment on how this new principal is? Also, how are the teachers there? Are they good, motivated, patient, and nurturing? I’ve seen some very impatient and not very nurturing teachers in a neighborhood school that really makes me worry about the type of teachers teaching our children.

Buzybuzz, I would appreciate it if you could comment on my question regarding the new principal at Montfort Junior and also the quality of the teachers there since you have a child in Montfort Junior. Thanks!

Hi I realise the new principal is rather young and I heard she is quite firm about things. Maybe as kiasu parents we should be more proactive like writing to her and ask her what are her plans for the school. Montfort used to be a rather good school but the standard (especially in the academic areas) has not improved over the years.

            hihi

My 2 boys r frm MJS, elder one now in sec sch. Fr my 8 years’ experience with the school, I guess it is not a fantastic tier 1 sch (not my first choice either) but not really a gangster school either. The top students from past few yrs have gone on to RI & HCI and the good ones get opportunities to participate in competitions such as math olympaid, NSW papers etc. It has some good teachers (my son has a really fantastic and dedicated form teacher this year) and the boys (my sons’ classmates) are well behaved and motivated (thanks to teacher). My gripe is with the previous principal (I think she focused too much on organising high publicity events/initiatives that are probably good for herself and her teachers’ CVs/promotion prospects, which I feel add little value to the students). Not too sure about the new principal as she just took over but my son says she is very strict. I think she is a young and upcoming MOE high flyer so may have some bright ideas and could be receptive to parents’ feedback.

thanks for the info, lowmama. I agree with you on the past culture of the school. Just hope the new principal will do some restructuring.

I am kind of sad when I read this thread…

I transferred my twin boys out from a so called top notch sch during their P1 as I was very upset with the sch systems- They used corporal punishment and run the sch poorly as they are too ‘popular and proud’ to accept any feedback-all they want is perfect students…

I should admit that boys are active and no children are angels. My boys are montessori trained and they r rather outspoken too. I do not wish to elaborate further abt unpleasant memories in the p1 as after that I made a decision to transfer to MJS!

It does not matter that I have to transfer them in the mid of P1, buying all new books and uniforms again. My twins did well in the school. They are p6 now.

I admit that the enrolment was used to be very low and the school standard is just average. However, my twins managed to stay in the top class yearly.

I dunno if this is the impt issue. As we do get very gd and caring form teachers though. However, there are some bad teachers out there. Being supportive and concerned parents, I gathered a few parents and went to feedback to the NEW principal last yr.

The NEW principal is young and firm. I cannot comment on how she is faring in leading the sch yet as its still too early to tell. However, this year, my twins are getting all the best teachers and I tell you- I am very pleased.

My twins are average pupils- abt 70% in P5 but class position is 30 n above cos their 1st in standard is 90%. So I strongly felt that the PSLE results this year will be one of the best.

MJS is a sch which is values parent and child bonding. We were invited to choose CCA, mooncake festival, CNY celebrations, sports day etc. I always attend all events.

Our form teacher has been teaching tis class for a few years. She liased with the parents through sms and she holds children’s day party for the class. During year end, she booked a chalet and catered buffet for the class-parents were invited too. I had made friends with many parents and we do share and update anything abt school.

I dunno if its due to that my twins are in better class, the classmates are very sweet and polite though there are some mischievous ones.

Whatever it is, its also depends on your child on academic performance though sch enviroment is impt. Parent’s support to the school is very impt too…

You may have misread Dreamybee's post. She was actually talking about ANOTHER unamed school, NOT Montfort Junior, that practises corporal punishment. She is quite happy with Montfort Junior.
