I'm not sure if it is appropriate to place this query here but do really appreciate to hear some opinion. \"What would be your choice between SJI-IB vs HCI? SJI has projected a very convincing image that it is a school of character whilst the latter is a highly sought after, reputable institution with good track records.\"
Does your DS love Higher Chinese ? If Yes then perhaps HCI would be more suitable given the culture. Also need to look at the Big Fish in Small pond or Small Fish in the Big pond analogy. Where do you want your DS to be? -
emoh:
Agree with emoh, if i had a son I would hv started him out at catholic high and then to HC, i prefer to go for a school tat touches on tradition, culture and character building.kiasumeme:

They will not have many chances to mix with Singaporeans of other races.emoh:

Since we are on the character building…anyone has recommendation of which Sch would you think is a good Girl’s Sch?
After going thru DSA for DS this year, realised I din do much ‘homework’ but luckily DS seems ‘stronger’ in char, so I dun have to worry much. But DD will be a headache, so think I better start knowing how are the girls’ Sch like before her PSLE 2013. Am staying west area, so preferably not further than bukit timah. -

Most of the girls schools like RGS, NYGH, MGS and SCGS would be ideal for your DD.Since we are on the character building.....anyone has recommendation of which Sch would you think is a good Girl's Sch?

How about your DS? How does he feel about the 2 schools? I know of some boys who are afraid of the Chinese environment. More importantly, he shouldn't go to a school that he dislike or fear of. -

Kiasumeme, list the questions like below and answer yourself and ask your DS to answer which will lead u to what u want . This I have done my side which made me decide green pants and not white pants.I'm not sure if it is appropriate to place this query here but do really appreciate to hear some opinion. \"What would be your choice between SJI-IB vs HCI? 1. Interest in Mother Tongue.
2. Do you want him to mingle with multi culture people or get taste of the tradition more.
3. CCA's and other clubs the school has that might interest your child and how high the chance to get what he wants to.
4. Your's child capacity and style of learning.
5. Relaxed phase / Non relaxed phase of learning.
6. IB is for about the Critical thinking & Management Skills and A-Level route dont have (unless the school has seperate pgms for these and your DS gets chance to participate)
7. Are you after branded name.
8. How much ure DS will have chance to participate in pgrms they have in the school , this is more important. school might have many things but if your DS didnt get chance then what is the point joing the school -
Anyone receive letter or email from
SST & NJC , today is 31/8/12 , still
No news ? -

I think DS himself has a stronger inclination towards HCI compared to SJI.
DS has opted not to do Higher Chinese in Primary School as we were afraid that he has to shelf out too much time for it and affects his other subjects. My thought then was, for the additional 2-3 bonus marks, I think its easier that he works hard and gain back the same if not more marks from his other subjects. DS is not a big fan of Chinese, he doesn't read any Chinese materials and tends to make a fuss whenever I try to get him to study for it. However, all these years, he had used his own ways to ensure he achieves good results in the subject. Have once tried to use Higher Chinese to sway him off HCI but he showed no hesitation in proclaiming that \"I can do it!\"
\"Big Fish in Small pond or Small Fish in the Big pond\" - :scratchhead: Thanks for bringing this pt, I think I've totally missed it :scared:
I think my DS is likely to be a \"Small Fish in the Big HCI pond\". Having said that, it may not necessary be a bad thing for him as many parents who knows him brand him as one who \"thrives in competition\". His success in getting the HCI offer is totally UNEXPECTED -- from the sport trial to the written tests. In his sport, he is considered the dark horse, having started late into it. His Coach has never been optimistic that he would succeed in his DSA via Sport to HCI.
As for the tests, I think the Chinese paper is a HUGE challenge for him.
For myself, I came into this dilemma as the introduction of SJI's holistic learning environment has appealed to me very much and also seems very aligned to DS's style of learning. DS do have a bit of attitude issues, the character emphasis from SJI then strikes on me that it may do him good.
Like all parents, I feel character development is of utmost important AND at the same time, as a typical S'porean mum, I couldn't bring myself to reject the offer of an elite school. :slapshead:
:frustrated:
