All About Parent Volunteers (PV)

Agreed, you have to watch carefully. I was PV at NH for a while but there was no real organisation to the system and I was only doing bits and pieces, never going to be enough to clock up the requisite. Eventually did PV at Fairfield instead and it was much better.
Hi QY, perhaps you may want to monitor things a bit. Quite some years back, my friend's wife was accepted as PV in NPS. However, for ? reason, she did not manage to clock the required hours. Apparently, they preferred those whose timing is more flexible. Since your child will only be enrolling in 2012, I would suggest you really 'piah' to clock the hours, and then evaluate your position.QY:
Am very delighted when NHPS accepted my application as PV for my daughter's enrolment for P1 in 2012. However, me now staying >2km (at CCK)...thus am contemplating very hard on whether to shift house. Have checked the property prices (both HDB and pte) in Clementi area (especially within 1 km of NHPS) and it is quite high...or should I enrol in a decent neighbourhood sch within my resident vicinity and then enrol her for tuition and enrichment classes instead??
Thus far, NHPS only has balloting for phase 2B in 2008. For 2009 and a few years before 2008, there was no balloting in phase 2B.
Based on past stats, getting in there via 2B/2C is macham better than tio bepio....even NYPS also had more vacancies.
Sorry if I'm scaring you, just thought it be prudent to make 2nd/3rd contingency plans.

Ask the comm for a clear transparent set of criteria for allocating PV hours, and then hold them to it. Do you have clear evidence of misdemeanour?
well, I have questioned the comm several times. they claims to be 1st-come-1st-serve basis, i.e. by fair, all PV will receive smses and those reply 1st will get it.
but i found out that we only keep receiving those 0.5 to 2 hours assignments only. those long hours asignments were only communicated & asigned to their 'kakis'.
there was a few occassions that I bumped into some parents coming for their PVs after I have completed mine. I realized that theirs were long hours ones (whereas mine was only 0.5 to 1 hours). Worst, I also found out that there are different version of smses sent for the same day PV assignments.
\"I will come back to you when I confirmed with the person-in-charge\" this has always been the replies when I complained to them.
What can/should I do next?
Is it good/useful to 'blow this up' with the principal?
Appreciate your advice. -
NHPS original principal has been transferred to lead Nanyang Pri from Dec 09.
NHPS now has a newly appointed principal, who was previously vice principal.
School performance depends a lot on who the principal isβ¦
Good luck.
U could refer to press announcement by MOE abt the new principal appointment -

I suppose if you feel that you are being unfairly treated, you ought to raise your concerns with the HOD or principal. It may just be a misunderstanding, and sometimes its just not possible to be completely equitable. On the other hand, its also worth reminding the staff that if they have accepted you as PV, they have an obligation to provide you opportunities to complete your 40 hours.well, I have questioned the comm several times. they claims to be 1st-come-1st-serve basis, i.e. by fair, all PV will receive smses and those reply 1st will get it.

well, my issue is the acceptable PV hours = 60, not 40! this is their regulation.

the real problem is that the PV Comm was recently switched, thus led to this unhappy events. I could not even talk to anyone who really cares now. and there's no comunications to all PV for the switch at all!!!
worse, the new principal will only come on board next year.
my dilema is:
- will the new principal care' bout this PV issues...
- will the school staff really take serious corrective actions to these...
- will the 'new' PV Comm 'blacklist' me since I become whistleblower / loudhailer to their plots
if I have time, I'd try to be 1 of their 'kakis'.....but I've got to work.....sigh.
I'm only left with till June 2010 . . . . to complete the rest of >40hrs & this . . . . . -

It looks like you are pretty clear in your own mind about the quandary you face. My personal advice on all of these types of issues is to be upfront about it. Is there really something to whistle-blow? Or is it a perception? Sometimes being upfront is also being fair to the other party to allow them to explain their decision-making. In the end , its really up to you, of course.well, my issue is the acceptable PV hours = 60, not 40! this is their regulation.

U've got to work..and this is the main difference, compared to those who can PV almost everyday.if I have time, I'd try to be 1 of their 'kakis'.....but I've got to work.....sigh.

Commitment to PV regularly and notified at last minute are common.
These decide who gets more hours..
There is no obligation for the school to ensure PV could finish clocking 40 hours. Do not believe that the school cares how many hours have been clocked, or whether PV has little time left to June...
Take initiative to commitment
Having specialised skills makes a big difference.
My comments based on my PV experience at SouthView. -

Luanee:
thks to both Luanee & dolphin to share on this info..do hope along the way we get more of such sharing of details..thks..
From past balloting history, u would not need to ballot if u PV in Poi Ching. That is, staying out of 2km will still guarantee u a place if u qualify under 2B.dolphin:
To PV experts,
I have a doubt, hope someone can enlighten me through this forum.
Is it true that I should give up being a PV if I stay more than 2km from the school. I hope to get a place into Poi Ching / Temasek, both more than 2km. Which school stand a higher chance? or should I look at other school instead.
Thanks
For Temasek Primary, there was only balloting in 2B for year 2008, and none for the other years.
Hence it seems that Poi Ching has a higher chance to get in without balloting for 2B. However what I said above is all based on past years history, anything can change during the year of ur child's registration.
Hope it helps.
