      Blokus:

      Double E

Did you skip the 1-1 therapy? You mentioned you went straight for the social class?

Thanks, Blokus. So it is still individual therapy lah....looks like they are selling the individual therapy more than the group class πŸ˜„.

      Double E,
I'm also curious to know if your child went to individual therapy before the group class. It seems like it wasn't an option for us to go to the group class directly without the individual therapy. Can share?

        Hi

Another reason for me skipping the 1:1 us because they can only assign a less experience therapist to me, all the seniors are booked.

          Blokus:
          Moms

Would there be any implications if we get our kids diagnosis via NuH/kkh? Like would there be a permanent record with MOE, or other ministries? Maybe it may become a hurdle to them entering school or getting insurance etc?
Hehe, Blokus, I also want to know this πŸ˜„ . Actually, I wonder if it will hinder them getting a job in the future, like in the govt sector. I dun wan to do something now that will jeopardise his future n limit his options.
I ever ask my PD...he told me being assessed as special needs by KKH/NUH is not a crime, so why would the record be floated to other ministries? But I don't buy his reasons, so I went private.
Then when I got the results from the private psychologist, I asked her this question again. She told me for school registration, I should declare so that my child will get the support suitable for his condition. Else when incidents happen in school, school will assume that my kid is just being 'naughty', and the school will send him to be counselled by the allied educator. They will use some counselling technique meant for NT kids, which will cause more frustrations to my Aspie kid. As for insurance, she said she is not so sure, better to ask insurance agent. But she feels that unless the child is of a condition which is considered risk prone, insurance shld not be a problem.

So, did the other mummies hear other answers to this question?

For insurance, I did sound out my agent before. He is friend of my hubby. He said should not be a prob but it may affect the premium. So I played safe and bought all the insurance I think he needs before he is due for formal assessment. My boy has not been formally assessed.

The other purpose of the insurance is also to protect my daughter. If anything happen to my boy in future and we are no longer around, she will not hv to bear the financial burden of taking care of him. At least his insurance can cover. Apart from education fund, we bought hospitalization, life insurance and critical illness for him.

No, it won't be in the records. I asked the dr then and she said they operate separately. In fact, there's a letter asking for our permission on whether to release information to the school. U can choose not to sign that form and the sch won't know. I chose to let the sch know so that they can make special accomodation for my boy. Eg, my boy likes to lie down on the floor. So during assembly, he does that. If the teachers didn't know, they would think he is being defiant. But I don't think they carry onto his records coz the sch also operate independently.

For insurance, from what I understand, they will remove personal accidents from it, regardless of wherever they are severely autistic or mildly. U can check further but that will mean declaring the condition in the first place. So, buy your insurance now before the diagnosis. Make sure u cover all your grounds.

                      Kar Kar

My boy has the education fund, critical illness, life insurance and hospitalisation. His total premium per mth is about $900. His sister has the same insurance policies except for life insurance. Our agent suggested that we get a life insurance plan for him after we hinted to him about our boy’s condition, cos he reckon he needs more coverage. And is advisable to get it for our children now while they are still young, premium much cheaper.

Cos of my son, I also top up my critical illness coverage since I can’t depend on my kids to help me with medical bills should anything happen. My hubby too topped up his premium.

With a special kid, we need to think far and deep, make plans for them so that they can sustain themselves when we are no longer around. I am also thinking how to tell my girl about her brother but she is still very young, maybe when she is in primary school then she will be more mature to understand what Autism is.

Double E, Thanks for your quick reply. i am like ants on hot pan..feel like i can do more before diagnosis. and decided to proceed with private program. instead of geting private psychology assessment, i just wanna get him to do ST and OT assessment since i am getting one in KKH.

that's huge expense every month for 900 plus therapy session and others. i know you send your son to private program. now i am shortlisting a few and plan to try two concurrently (centre based and home based), at the same time sending him to montessori playgroup as teacher can feedback on his progress as well.

insurance-related questions: i have no clue on the coverage on life insurance. any critical illness that i need to make sure to include, hospitalization =aka medishield? he gets the private. education fund, normally i was offered 250k or 500k or 1 mio by my agent.
