Thank you En-joy and jtoh for sharing. It 's reassuring to hear it from experienced parents that dd will be able to get some beauty sleep if time management is right.

I let mine study on her own first. Teachers have not rung any alarm bells, so its time she learns to study on her own. That;s why the principal encourage at the beginning of the year

Year 1 workload is very manageable. Of course there's a jump from doing 4 subjects to doing double that. And if your dd (and you) expect nothing less than A+ in ALL the subjects, then you might be in for some disappointment. By and large, RGS girls are very adaptable and intelligent, and they will be able to cope and do fine. But as the current girls will tell you, RGS isn't all about studies. The girls play hard and work hard. And that's why they all look forward to school.

Mummy here, however, is also a bit apprehensive about the (perceived) workload . Read somewhere that Year 1's will be learning Sec 3 curriculum? Just wondering if tuition is common in RGS, or if the girls try to cope on their own. I would much rather my girl not rely on tuition.

Don't worry MotherHen. My DD is in Y2 and so far no tuition. Let her enjoy Y1 as it is the most \"free\" year.

I believe those who get only 4 hours sleep are those who procrastinate or spend too much time on facebook or e-games and leave their homework/projects to the last minute.

My dd slept at 10pm regularly in Year 1 and that was inclusive of me-time - ie time set aside for leisure reading, games, unwinding etc. And she had a very busy CCA plus 3rd lang plus other school and non-school activities. It all boils down to how you manage your time.[/quote]My dd sleeps at 10 pm. Infact she gets very grouchy next morning if she goes late to bed. I find that school cca and 3rd language keeps her busy but she seems to be studying muuuch lesser than primary school since most exams are bite size. Does the EYA cover everything that is taught in Sec 1? I quite like the FA and GA system which they have. It makes learning more enjoyable than primary school.

I get about 5-6 hours(seldom 4h) of sleep on school days. I think it will get less and less as the years go by. By that time comes you will be used to it, don't worry:)

Time management is very important, strict enforcement on time spend on Facebook. At times, I have to take away her laptop for few days! Sometimes, it's the project team (friends) affecting the time mgt.. to sleep. We as parents, need to encourage DD to be disciplined when doing her part of the project work.

Just sharing, if dateline is tomorrow, when her friend still not done with her part, DD has to wait for them to submit to her to do the final part! So it becomes a chain reaction, if DD is project leader, by the time friend email to her at 1am… she has to continue her part, guess what…time she sleep!

:udawoman: My advise is, we, parents got to work as a team, ensure that time mgt. and team work is very important, so that all get to sleep early :grphug: :celebrate:

Agree with jtoh!
If our DDs are not distracted and do not procrastinate, time management is usually not an issue.

My DD's bedtime is between 9.30 and 10.30pm...
Which includes 1/2 hour of reading.
