Snow Crystal: hi, am glad to be back too!

      1. Very few drop out; fewer than 5 each batch, generally.
      2. The most common reason is general weakness β€” poor academic performance, most often caused by habitual slackness which isn't rectified in time.
      3. They don't have difficulties adjusting at all, since the O-level track is more concrete to most of them.
      4. Heh, a lot of them are in Medicine; some are in things like Aerospace Engineering or Computing/Computer Science. A lot end up in the black arts β€” business, economics, finance, accountancy. They span a varied range, all the way from hardcore science to fullblown aesthetics or humanities.
      :salute: thanks autolycus!
Glad to hear about the low dropout rate πŸ˜“ you know not being able to cope is the greatest fear of any parent :nailbite: I always thought the number is much bigger...very glad to be wrong on this. I guess the advantage of having dual track is that the affected boys will stay in same school.
And happy to hear that the IB grads enter varied uni faculties.

Btw PSLE 2013 will be able to choose between ACSI IP and ACSI O level track in S1 posting...there will be 2 codes instead of 1. In your opinion, do you think this will simply raise transparency? Do you think it may affect S1 COP? πŸ˜„

The nett COP for ACJC (that is, after all bonus points are used) is 6.

The nett COP for ACS(I) is around 4 these days.
How about those who want to transfer from other IP? They do not join JAE so they use their own IP Year 4 results? They apply separately?

Snow Crystal: Aha, that question about ACS(I) COPs in 2013… very hard to speculate. Depends, but I suspect the kiasu tendencies will force the COP up a bit. Hope I’m wrong. For those transferring into Year 5 from other IPs, in the past this was done on a case-by-case basis, or through DSA. But I hear that loophole will soon be closed, except for students from MGS IP β€”Β which is designed to move students seamlessly into ACS(I) Year 5.

COP up? :scared: -- oh no! :faint: :gloomy: This year possible- due to Dragon Baby Effect πŸ˜“
In the DSA thread someone posted that ACSI is suitable for those more inclined in humanities. That is the impression I have too, thus earlier questions. I wish ACSI can publish information like how many of their students go into non-humanities uni facilities ....

ACS(I) is only more inclined to the humanities in the sense that creative thinking is more encouraged over a broader range. ACS, historically, has been very science-minded; consider the ACSian MPs in Parliament now, for example. Tharman S and Ng Eng Hen are high-profile examples. It's just that they are more broadly educated than the usual scientist... πŸ™‚

Eh some clues to that can be found in https://www.dropbox.com/s/orr68znjoijjorf/2005%20Proxy%20Arena%20%28Edited%29.pdf (yes 2005 is a long time ago). Enjoy.

Anyone can share for Y3, is Lit complusory? Or can do History and Geog?

                    Thanks

Yes, for Y3, Eng/Lit is compulsory. That’s because for the IB programme, Lit is a compulsory component (English A, at Standard or Higher Level). You can try to do it with both History and Geog, but understandably few people want to do that and if there are too few, the school will not open up a class for it, due to timetabling constraints.
