      Mashy,

if the teacher is going to tell me this again, i will let her know i m trying all errors & means to work it out...

hiaz... if my son is not manageable & keep getting complaints from teacher that he is affecting others kids, there chance that the P will call me to withdraw him. tat what i worried about...

cuz they are not special needs teacher...
Changing sch may not be that bad. It turned out to be a blessing for us. My son was also 'kicked' out of his kindy when the principal wanted to demote him. Some more it happened when i was going to give birth to my younger gal. We changed to another sch and he stayed all the way till he graduated. Don't worry. If have to change, change. May be a blessing in disguise.

Helplessmum, I agree with gifts from heaven. Take constructive steps, engage the teachers to try to work as a team to address the problems. Show the teachers that you are also taking steps to address the issue at home. Seek mutual support to handle the issue at both home and school fronts. If all else fails after trying, at least you know you have tried n it doesnt work out and you have no choice but to change school.

Good to hear that. Perhaps as follow up, you may like to monitor the situation at home and then initiate a conversation with the teachers once a week to tell them the situation at home and ask for feedback on your son at school, and then further adapt activities at home accordingly. Mummies here have given you lots of suggestions on what are the things you can do. Take simple steps at each go n take notes if you need to.

There could be quite a few rounds before seeing any results.
Keep an open mind and put in efforts. Then after that you could be in a better position to take stock of the situation n see if you need to make other decisions.

helplessmum, ASD children fluctuate in their behaviour and exhibition of autistic traits. It is important to understand that while intervention may help to manage the condition, the traits will stay with the child, and under stress, these traits may resurface again. That's why it is said that there is no cure for ASD, though there are effective means to manage the condition.

Being sick is one form of stress that the body undergoes, so this increases the probability of the child showing certain autistic traits that have seemingly disappeared. That is not to say that the efforts spent on intervention are lost forever once the child is sick or under stress. When the body goes back to healthy state, the child's base level will be back. You wont have to rebuild all over again.

I used to get frightened when my daughter exhibited certain traits that have disappeared when she became sick, cos I thought that she was regressing. But that's not true. So try not to look at the child on the day to day basis, there will be good and bad days. Instead look at the child on a periodic basis (3 months, 6 months) and see how the child has progressed.

                  Hope this helps.

In the previous archives, there was mention of a social story book…is it called My Social Stories Book by Carol Gray? It was recommeded in the Psychologist’s Report as Social Stories by Carol Grey.

                    Thanks.

                        Hi Fizz,

It's called \"The New Social Stories Book\" by Carol Grey. Personally, I find the Jed Baker's one better 'cos more pictures and less words, so more suitable for young kids. But Carol Grey's one will tell you her technique on how to go abt developing your own social stories. Hope that helps.

Btw, I read earlier on that you met up with the AED of your kid's primary school to enquire abt the support that would be given for AS kids. Can share info on the kind of support the school will give here? Thanks!
