U are lucky that your boy is referred to KKH's rehab and u are paying a subsidized rate. For many of us that are managed by KKH's CDU, do not have access to the rehab. My boy was referred to the rehab only because our pte PD wrote to KKH to check his ears, so even when we go to the rehab, we pay pte rate. This is a serious gap that KKH needs to address. And comparing the therapists in rehab and HPB (referred by KKH CDU) , I find that the therapists in rehab are better and more experienced and they conduct useful courses for like \"It takes two to Talk\" for parents.
Yes, agree that we have been lucky. Else will be so lost... Can't u get a PD from Kkh to refer u?

I asked the doctor and nurses from CDU about their rehab services, but they seem lost and just told me that they don’t share resources and work independently. So duh!!

Ya, I told them that some of my boy's history can be found in his file. They said they don't share files either! In fact CDU works independently from all depts in KKH. They even insisted on a separate appt card when I simply brought one of my boy's numerous kkh appt cards. They must paste a sticker over the back that gives a different address.

And they are very inefficient. I heard from my sil who is on the waiting list to send my nephew for some assessment, they didn’t call for months! Then when my bil called and asked, they then gave them an appt date.

Here's a blog from a mummy that i just read. I wonder if she is among us here. She's really one hardworking mom. She has recorded her son's progress over the years.

Something new that I have noticed in my boy

                      Imaginary play
                      - he finally displays some of them. Now he will take two figurines (we pass it to him) and pretend them to be the characters in a book he read. Then he will narrate "Ben and bella are waiting for the bus", "The bus is here", "Ben and Bella are taking the bus", it may be just echoing what he read, but at least, he will move the figurines like make them walk and take bus. He was never able to do that last time

                      Negotiation
Previously, when we asked him to stop playing and go to bed, he will protest and throw tantrums and we will tell him he has another 5mins. Now when we ask him to stop playing, he will say "mommy, give me 5 more mins". Though he will still throw a bit of tantrum when we eventually ask him to stop after 5mins, but am just glad that he can contextualise what we do to him and use it on us.

His OT just asked us today if we want to start music therapy on him at home which I have been procrastinating. Cos I am a FTWM, I worry that I can’t find the time to do it consistently at home. Has anyone of you try music therapy at home?

My boy is doing music therapy now. I'm also FTWM, sometimes need to travel too, so got to depend on my mum and helper to make sure it is done. My boy needs to listen to the CD for 30 minutes a day. I gave him a timer as a form of 'motivator' since he is quite obsess with looking at the clock and checking on the time nowadays.
