      Hi paranoid,

The aim of the experiment is to find out if material A is a conductor of electricity. Thus, need not have to think of material B.
      cheers.

sorry for my typo, i mean option 2 should be the answer since using only object B will be able to tell B is conductor and A is insulator…

          Hi
Option 1 is the answer.Refer to my previous post,i would have mentioned that to satisfy the aim of the experiment.Option 2 would tell object B is a conductor or a non conductor of electricity. Thus, option 1 is the clear answer.
          cheers

            hi charsen,

the question says she suspects object A is insulator, so if choose option 1, means u can tell if A is insulator, but cannot tell for B. so choosing option 2 will prove B is conductor, but A is not.

              Hi
question says that she wants to prove object A is a insulator of electricity.Choosing B is risky as if the bulb does not light up,you cannot say that object a is a insulator of electricity. Thus, the safest answer is 1.
              Hope this explanation helps.
              cheers

i just text my dd’s sci teacher, it should be option 2 as mentioned…

similar explanation as mine, she said if choose option 1 using only A, if bulb doesnt light up, just to confirm A is insulator but does not tell for B.

but if choose option 2 using only B, it can confirm that A is insulator and B is conductor.

(cos the question says which set up to choose to confirm A is insulator, which is her suspicion)

not trying to argue on this but when it comes to questions like this that misleads and tricks in terms of language, i have the habit of seeking the answer all the way if not i cant be firm when i’m coaching my dd and younger ds…

dd’s sci teacher call to say question is a little misleading, usually will only have option 1 or 2 and cannot have both… questions like this are questionable to sch teachers to bargain for marks for both ans 1 and 2 to be given marks…

If connect to B and CCT doesn’t light up, then u also cannot get anything conclusive for A.

that’s why its questionable… if parents like us can argue our way, kids will be confused as to which one to choose too…
