Thanks Straffan. So I have to renew my maid contract first, extend her WP, get an endorsement from Indo Embassy before she can go on home leave n not let her take home leave first ?

Read somewhere where we are advised to let her go home then when she actually do return then buy Insurance, extend WP ?

If her contract is less than 2 years, can I let her go on home leave first like Dec 12 when I m clearing leave ? Or I must do through only through agent ?

Appreciate any insights ? Thanks !

Did you guys read today’s straits times? Indo could be world’s 7 th economy by 2030. No wonder indo govt is so confident and mentioned in the papers that they want to stop their citizens from going out to work as maids by 2017. At first I thot it was highly impossible but now I guess they must have done their evaluation and checks before they made this statement. Good luck to all the maid agencies in Singapore!!

          Littlefly:
          Hi All,

Please share if you have any advises/ recommendation:

My Indo maid contract expires 6 March 2013. She has 15 days home leave in the contract. She does not has the KTKLN card. Her WP expires 6 March 2013 and her passport was renewed in 2012 already.

If we decide to renew her contract, what are the steps to take?

Should I plan her home leave period to be last 2 weeks of Feb? so that I got 2 weeks allowance to renew her WP after she returned Singapore?

She don’t have KTKLN card now – how to apply for her or she can only DIY herself at Indo airport? Hers is Surabaya.

When she returned, I need to purchase insurance ? Assuming I purchase from NTUC income, the cheapest I get is $194.74 right?
          http://www.income.com.sg/insurance/foreignmaid/index.asp

Then, I just need to renew WP online?
          http://www.mom.gov.sg/services-forms/Pages/wp-online-fdw.aspx

Is that all to renewing her contract? Any other paperwork to be processed?

Another question I have is she wants to carry cash home or is there safer way to tt money home? She don’t have her bank account yet and is using her Uncle’s bank account. She is worried that they will take all her money and she returned penniless

          Thanks in advance!
I would recommend that you pay extra to cover the bond as well.

You don't need an agency to do this.
Also, since she already has the KTKN card that's valid untill 2014, you shouldn't need a new one.
Since her WP in valid until March 2013, you also don't need to renew her WP until she comes back (assuming she comes back in a 2/ a few weeks).

In fact her going on leave in Dec instead of Fb, makes things easier for you. You now don't have to decide whether to renew her WP first (and risk wasting time and $ if she doesn't come back)

I suppose do that in case the maid decide not to come back??? So that they don't need to waste $ and time doing the extensin when maid is not coming back.

So far, we don't follow the home leave timing strictly. My maid will go back when it's a better timing for us and usually for 2 weeks+.

..... Just yesterday I heard that my new maid has to come to Spore to work because the dh is lazy and refused to go out to find job.... I wonder if 2017 is a realistic target especially for those in the rural area. There need to be a radical change in mindset too.

My maid of 5 years who is going back told my mum that her sister is graduating in 2 years time and she said maybe her sister can work for us next time. :? Dh and I were like... shouldn't they encourage her to study more???? Maybe there are just no jobs so no point studying more.

Littlefly: Yeah. It is even easier if she wants to go home in December instead. I usually withheld that month’s salary (some withheld 2 months) when my maid goes for her home leave because:

                    1. In case she changes her mind about coming back.
                    2. So that she won’t be penniless when she is back - they usually spend every last penny while back for home leave.

Let her go lah....if she wanna go and you stop her, she may create problem. Not worth it. Make her pay her own airfare, let her take her money lah. It's her money what. No big deal. Technically is her money, no right to hold back lah. (hope no one bash me for saying this :nailbite: 🙏 ) Tell her if she come back and complete the 2 years then you reimburse her the airfare and her 2 week pay lor. Like that she don't come back also no loss, only troublesome to get new maid, but better than if she try to be funny here. Just what I will do, but many others may feel otherwise.

Thank you all for your advises.

Yes. I will let her take her home leave earlier. The air tic I told her i pay half first then when she returns then I reimburse the other half. Will tell her if she don’t wish to extend after contract ends in March 2013 then I will use her own pay to buy the return ticket. Maybe I should withhold her one month’s pay in case I bought insurance n extend WP spent like $300+ n then she change her mind about going home later.

She also opened a FDW account which needs min $500 to maintain. She said she won’t close it coz she wanted to renew w me but taking her home leave earlier only.

What will happen to the account if she don’t returns ?
