Up to A level :scared: I am still hoping that dd will take responsible of her studies by Sec so I can drop all her tuitions, fat hope now.
nope, that's not my ds no tuition in sec1 this yr. lets just see how he fares... so far so gd...
not sure since when i have this wishful thinking to stop all tuitions when dd come sec1 :clubmyself:KSP:
even w/o psle, KSP will still be KSP...
w/o psle still have o levels.. being KSP, we will not ask our kids to go for tuition only when it is near o levels... tat will be too late... so no matter what, having psle or not will not change the situation better...
for those parents who expects less, yes they will quit tuition and enrichment, but that will be minority..
i talked to many ppl.... colleagues and friends then i found out that we can't get away from this tuition thing even up to A level.... :slapshead: :stupid: -

KSI, the words in red are exactly what dh said to me this morning!..
Why need to stress over DSA and IP? I have already explained earlier we do not have to subscribe to every scheme. There are many ways to get to the end goal depending on developmental milestones. Also, what the school is doing is simulating the real world outside, yet with a fair amount of control as they are still kids. We should not be overly protective. In the real world outside, everyday is an exam, everyday performance is based on relative benchmarks. So I would prefer the children to understand that and see it as an integral part of life. Simulating a cosy and artificial environment will only cause them to falter at work in future.ksi:
How true! I totally agree with the above. In fact, I am very happy that MOE is actively listening to the feedbacks from parents, schools and taking actions about it. It is a different MOE now than the past machinery...
Regarding PSLE scrapping, it needs further study although personally I am not at all for it. Not that I am a sucker (oops, excuse the language) for exams but it's because I feel the real problem is not with PSLE but other things such as T-score and over-testing. T-score compares the students against each other, hence adding to all the stress (KS parents feel their kids must be ahead of bell-curve etc) and really, do we need all that? If PSLE is to test how well the student has mastered the subject matter, then it should not matter what the other students fare but how each fare against the benchmark for that subject. No? Maybe, we can replace the current scoring with a raw score grading e.g GPA grading. THat way, we can still know how well the child/student knows/understand the subject. Based on this score, parents can choose the best schools for the children. Like what Mawar mentioned, no every parent wants to send their kids to the best school academically but I am sure ALL parents want to send their kids to the school that is best suited for their kids.
Just my teeny weeny half a cent worth...

I have also intended to start my ds sec 1 next year without tuition. I think for sec 1, we have the luxury to at least try it out. PSLE has indeed generated many tuition for the kids.
It's possible to do Sec without tuition, I'd think. I do leave my kids without as they start. My eldest only had tuition for 1yr for her Math in sec 3, and also for her chinese that year. She managed to cope on her own after that *boost*. My older boy may need tuition but no time so he tries hard to cope on his own and consults his teachers when he needs ;( Our current sec 1, *sigh*. Yeah, in the end needed Math tuition too which he started 2nd half of the year. Interestingly enough, he says he understands when his tutor explans, but not when his teachers do. Really *sigh*, bc then what are our teachers doing in school lessons? Our elder daughter also only improved after getting help from tutor - from F to A in a few months after getting tuition - again, how come the school teachers don't teach so that the child can get the A from the start? How come they are not teaching in a way the child understands and excels? Last time in secondary, it was my class math teacher who was so good at teaching in upper secondary that I went from F to A in Sec 3. How come now we have to use tutors... tutors \"BETTER\" than school teachers these days? Aiyoh.KSP:
Initially kiasuism lead us to book tuition for my ds at begining of sec 1. But later when he gets busy with school homework, CCA and projects time become limited and going for tuition has become secondary or unimportant. So we quit tuition to save up time for him to focus more on school work. yah,..it has been a year and everything goes on well without tuition! So be dare to \"quit that tuition!\" and try it out. Believe me, you will most enjoy $$$ saving.
:thankyou:  i will try to let dd take more CCAs and have no time for tuition..... hope it will not get backfire .... :lightrod: -
back to the topic, who will, or which parent will, totally remove tuition n enrichment for the kids when its confirmed to scrap psle??

Good question. Something for everyone to think about.
