Working parents, how do you help your child with homework?

i bought it at harvery norman... it was 1088 back then.. gd as it can do double-sided printing...

I guess this is a constant struggle for parents, esp for FTWM.

For me, I will plan their weekly/mthly work schedule but executing it is a total different story esp it involves different fatigue levels, mood swings and so many other unforeseen circumstances that come along e way…

At least for next year, I am planning to do away with past year papers, cut down on assessment books and relook at their no of enrichment classes. Alrdy confirmed cutting 2 of my DS’s classes.
I hv also learnt (still learning) to identify my DS’s areas of weaknesses and work on them, e.g. i will "select" questions in the assessment books for him, instead of asking my DS to complete the whole unit each time.

doing questions selectively is gd.. i did tat with my ds too... many are repeated practices so do again also correct one.. so no point..

parents nowadays do whatever we can for our kids… unconditional love for them… if i can afford to buy a school, i think i would too…

Yes, it's a constant struggle for a FTWM, but the results are worth it.
After work, I go home to to read dd's text books and guide books so that I can explain concepts to her. First I go through her school worksheets, identify the areas that she doesn't fully grasp the concepts for, then explain to them to her. Then I'd ask her to try those topics in her assessment books.
The pay off- she doesn't have to waste time doing topics she's already good at, so more time to play!

I subscribe to e-learning platforms so that marking is automated. This not only saves me a bit of time but also helps to ensure that DC do a minimum amount of work daily. But e-learning is not a replacement for exam papers and assessment books. The skill training is different.

Hi Jedamum, mine is not the Popular bookshop ones. Am using Fastforward and Reading Assistant for English and problemsums.com for Mathematics. The kids work on the questions in the afternoon and evening while I am at work. I use their scores to track their progress. This is useful for the MCQ sections of the exams but will not work for open-ended questions. For that, still need to put pen to paper and practise writing.
