Hi
Is it true that Nanyang is compulsory to take the GEP tests in P3?
I thought the MOE stated is not compulsory. I want to opt out my DD to take the test next year. -

Thanks for the information. I just to re-confirm that I can opt out my girl to take the GEP test in P3 next year? Phew! Grad to know I can opt out for this test. I don't like to stress up my girl to take this test. I feel if the child is good she/he can perform well in school regardless the child in GEP or not.

I was surprised to learn from other parents with older kids that is compsulory to take the GEP test as the school will use this test to stream the child to which clasS in P4. If that the case will be quite unfair to the late bloomer. -
Sorry what is the meaning of cannot have 漏网之鱼? My Chinese not so good! Thanks!

they try not to miss any one out by getting everyone to do the test
last time some never opt in was like not caught in the GEP net
the GEP screening test is stress free, nothing to prepare, be natural
if you in, good; if not, no loss...NYPS has good curriculum and system and process, just work hard -

So I do not want to stress her up, eventhough the test is stress free. I did asked her if she want to try she said not prefer to take up the test unless I force her to take up or is compsulory. Well she already in the good school, she is doing well in class, only need to buck up her English language that pull her overall marks down.
Since Nanyang can opt for this test. I respect her decision to opt out for the GEP test. -

If that the case will be quite unfair to the late bloomer.[/quote]Of course, one can opt out but I do not know of any child opting out as test is conducted during curriculum time and so parents just let kids try. It seems that some parents have the wrong idea that school stream kids based on GEP test. The test merely stream the GEP kids (top 1.5%) and META kids (1.5-5% based on GEP test). For the latter, sch also gave parents the choice to opt in or out. For mainstream P4 classes, students are streamed based on their P3 results only. I know of a kid who did not make it through the 1st test, but was still streamed into the best High Achiever P4 class this year based on his good results in P3. -
No stress in GEP test. I think only MCQ. It is KS parents who wish for their kids to get in that stress their kids. If you are not hoping for that then so stress lor. Get into GEP also can opt out. Nothing is compulsory lah.

There should not be any stress if you and your dd do not set any expectation. Just treat it as a practice paper. Anyway, most (if not all) her friends will be taking the test and it is during the school hours. My dc was not strong (and is still not strong) in English but good in maths and was selected to join GEP and enjoyed the program very much for the past 3 years. -

It's not auto opt-in. The form I signed this year indicated \"allow / not allow\" and I will have to strike off one of them.

One of DD's classmate did not take the screening test. I let DD took it since she wanted to do it, and as an assessment whether she's doing reasonably well.
