Sengkang Green Primary
-
We just received a letter from MOE today, too, stating that my nephew, not a Singaporean or PR is given a place at Sengkang Green Primary School. He is my nephew and staying at Clementi Ave 6 with me. (We registered him under phase 3 in one of the school near our place but was not balloted.)
It is really pretty far from our place. We hope that the school has engaged a school bus. There should be, right? -

It is a new school in Sengkang, which is in the north east. Most of the new schools are in Sengkang & Punggol. I don't think the school bus will pick him up from Clementi, as most of the students will be staying near the school. Which school did you apply under phase 3? Popular schools tend to fill up in phase 2 & you can only try the less popular or new schools. You may call MOE to request for a school nearer to your place or look for a school by yourself. We just received a letter from MOE today, too, stating that my nephew, not a Singaporean or PR is given a place at Sengkang Green Primary School. I have been investigating the private bus option further. I called the ministry, but because it is a new school they didn’t have any bus information. The man I spoke with at the ministry said that I can ask the staff at Fernvale Primary (our registration centre) about bus information when I go to register my daughter next week. However, I have learned that even if we can arrange a private bus, my daughter’s commute will still be really long as she will hit rush hour. So, I called the ministry back to see if we could be placed at another school that is closer by and the man said they cannot switch her. Instead he suggested I accept the offer at the current school and then start visiting schools closer to my home to see if they have spaces available. I asked if he could provide me with the names of schools in my area that still had spaces available, but he said he could not provide me with this information. If I go to a school that is already filled up for P1, he said I can ask to be placed on their waiting list. That is what I am going to do. Fingers crossed. Good luck thinkingskills!

I am very sure there are some schools in the West area that still have vacancies. You may want to call the schools to find out. It is kind of ridiculous for MOE to place your kid in a North-East School when you are residing in the West area. Your kid will have to spend more than an hour on the school bus, so poor thing.

Maybe you can check with Westwood Primary School located at Jurong West? Is a new school, may have vacancy… at least nearer than Sengkang…

Thanks for the suggestions. I did start calling schools closer to us. So far, the ones I called (which were ones that still had room at the beginning of phase 3 registration) are all full. So I am just putting my daughter’s name on a bunch of waiting lists. I know that Westwood Primary went to balloting, but I did e-mail the principal asking if we could be placed on a waiting list. Westwood Primary would be a perfect location as it is on the way to my husband’s work. I am going to see if there is a family who lives in the east who got placed there and see if we can arrange some kind of switch (not sure if the ministry would allow this, but worth trying). I also heard back from the vice principal of Sengkang Green saying that they will look into bus options for students living in the West based on interest. He said I can fill out a form when I go to register my daughter on Tuesday.

Try calling every school nearby to check. Else the poor child will be very tired having to travel to and fro school. It will then affect his/her well-being.

It really really makes me wonder who these people r at moe that can make this kind of "execution" to put little kids to travel far far away from his/her home very early in the morning to a totally strange n frightening place to start their school life.
I have tried going from sengkang to bukit batok by bus n rail n bus to reach my destination and it took me 1 1/2 hr to reach there. Moe really … , I don’t know what to say.
