MP echoes calls for PSLE to be scrapped

Mychildren:
:snuggles: thank you.janet_lee88:
It's Sunday. My son was so stressed that it showed on his face today. He is simply not himself. I can't tell him to play...it's really very tough. Can't let go but yet can't push him. I was affected by his mood. These 9 months have been the toughest period in his 6 years of primary school. Come September 27, it's the moment of truth.
Will not add more pressure to u. Just ask him to do his best & leave the rest to God. Will pray for u & your son! :hugs:
Make sure U & him get enough sleep, OK? -

You need to relax yourself. Sounds like you are really stressed and that will affect your boy. PSLE is important and the preparation is indeed not much fun, but it doesn't have to be so painful, unless you let yourself think so.
All the best to your DS. I am sure he will do well! -

Thanks. I've stopped nagging at him quite some time back. Just giving him encouragement and also praising him for the courage to have to go through such a grueling 9 months.janet_lee88:

just to share, i prepared my ds's fav food for him daily when he was going thru his psle last yr... n after everything, he said thks to me and said he appreciated all those... cos the sight of his fav food made him feel his hard work paid off as i'm also supporting him in a way...

The idea behind PSLE is for kids to know where they stand after 6 years of primary school education and secondary school posting.
But it definitely doesn't make sense to push our 11+/12 year olds so hard. There is NO joy in learning at all. They have to learn in order to pass PSLE.
Take synthesis & transformation for eg, a section in English Paper 2. It's not practical but schools give students worksheets to drill them in this area...all for 2 marks per question.
Models in Maths. We were never taught models back then. Yet, kids have to learn that now...my daughter in P2 has been introduced to models in school. Son had to use models to solve his Maths during his P4 SA2 as other methods are frowned upon. But at P5, he is free to use whatever he knows to solve problem sums. This is ridiculous !
PSLE starts 2moro.
My son is so stressed that he was crying in his sleep last night. My hubby and I had to assure him that everything would be fine. Why are our poor kids suffering from this dumb rat race so early in life ? -
