      My friend just called me.

Her son was told this by his teacher, ‘If you believe so much in tutors, no need to attend school. No need to attend PSLE’.
The boy is studying in a popular school.

hmmm...the best speaker for the ongoing debate shall represent KSP and register a formal complaint to the MOE on the inadequacy of the recommended texts in pri school!!! AYE??

        Yes !

may i nominate Janet lee ?

I think I'm not the only parent who feels that school text books are inadequate. It's really very sad that the text books we HAVE TO BUY do not give a TRUE picture of what exams really are. :?:

his teacher is not being fair... its true that nowadays if our kids encounter any problems in their hw, they ask tutor and not teacher... just because the teachers didnt do enough, that's why parents need to look for tutors!

When my son asked teacher how to do a question, the teacher told him 'to go and think'. Die die refused to teach. This happened to neighbour's son last year too. That boy asked 3 times and teacher refused to tell until the mum got fed up and wrote in. Also told the teacher if student needs help, TEACH HIM !!!
MOE, this is happening in Singapore schools.

              this is totally insane!!

This is happening and totally ridiculous !!! Since WHEN are tutors hired to teach/coach kids in school homework ??? No wonder SOME teachers do not teach lah. They pass their responsibility to students’ tutors.

MOE ministers, please be informed. This is happening.

Can write to moe n ask what is going on in school? Why do teachers have this kind of mentality?

i heard in some schools, British students speak poor English.
I know of quite a few who can't spell. Worse, thinking they are superior just because they are from the UK

i feel that many teachers now just treat it as a job... no more passion or whatever.. but tutors, on the other hand, as what i can see from my circle of friends, are the ones with passion to teach.. those full time ones of cos, not part times.

and tutors in tuition centers are also the ones with passion i feel.. cos they made the choice to open the center, or if not those ex moe teachers who later open their centers. that, i will say, they still have passion if not they wouldnt have open centers.. for those teachers w/o passion, i'm sure they wun want to open their own teaching school if they ever quit, most will step-stone to other fields definitely...
