Just my cents of thot - all parent want their kids to do well. The standard become competitive is cos each school is setting their exam more and more difficult and exam board is following the trend too. Parent has no choice but to send their kids for multiple tuition cos they want their kids to do well. If not, it seems the end. Firstly, MOE can start by having all school incl Nanyang, Tao Nang, etc, have the same exam papers for all levels. Principal and teachers KPI can be determined from how each level and overall school perform. Their bonus and how gd they are will be determined by perf of the exam for all level. This way, educators will work harder and not asking the kids to go for tuition. Moe can also send online survey to parent to gather feedback on how the school in terms of educ. Feedback shd carry some weight too. It takes two hands to clap, educator and parent, work together and not now, only parent. Just my view.

Hi Janet, don't feel bad about the ouburst. It's better you do it here than in front of your DS. I can feel the stress you are facing, but do keep your spirits up and rest well. It's for you and your DS.

I esp like what you said here:
\"Regardless of my son's results, I am proud of the hard work he had put in these past 9 months. That is effort put in and I will always love him for the grueling time this year without complaining.\"
        http://i49.tinypic.com/2wfod38.gif\">

btw, maybe when MOE says \"Teach less learn more\" it means they teach less in schools, so please learn more outside? 🦆

            Hi Parents,

I am sorry for the outburst.
I just couldn't take it anymore.
My son did have his share of 'ok' teachers last year.

When my son told me that remark, the volcano in me almost erupted. I controlled myself and asked son how he replied, 'it's PSLE today. Of course I have to be here.'
What is the problem with these so-called teachers? Don't they have least bit of humanity and kindness towards a child taking PSLE? Shut up if there is nothing nice to say.
Janet ... Relax and cool down ... Hope your ds will feel better soon ... Don't have to be too bother of Wat the teachers said or probably tt is just a casual remarks ... 2 more papers only and your ds can go play hard Liao ! I believe your ds has put in his best effort to revise for the exam Liao ... So just relax ok ..

If teachers’ performance depends on students grades, doesn’t it make even MORE sense they teach? It’s about the same logic as sales rep. Sales reps are given basic salary and in order to earn more, they have to be hardworking to sell more.

I do wonder whether school teachers know how to teach upper level primary Math for example. With the announcement of change of syllabus to PSLE English, will MOE send their teachers for thorough re-training?

Somewhere somehow the focus on the child's development was shifted to the school's achievements.

Thus our kids are suffering now... Not to mention parents and educators.

Remove the simi school banding... And focus on niche areas... Not sure if it's for the better or worst?
                :celebrate:

yes it makes more sense for them to teach.. but..

maybe they know they cant do much, that's why encourage students to go for tuition... it has been so long, they wun change for the better unless the quality of teachers improve...

Choices... Or the lack of choices.... :?

There's public housing (hdb) vs private housing
There's public transport vs private cars
There's public hospitals vs private hospitals
There's public kindergartens vs private kindergartens
There's public universities vs private universities

                      Why only public primary/secondary schools?
                      :?

Since schools want to set such 'wake up calls' (a.k.a tough CA/SA/prelim exams), train their teachers to teach students how to solve the questions. Don't pass the responsibility of teaching to tutors. This is unbecoming of teachers. Tutors are NOT paid nor hired to teach kids. They are paid to guide and coach our kids....but it doesn't seem the case any longer.

This is very well said. Teachers in sch always ask parents during parents meeting : is ur child having tuition at home?

What has it got to do with the sch? If i say yes, they will not teach that hard izit? So if i say no, will the teacher give extra lesson to my son?
