Double E:
I recalled wrongly. He started his writing at 9.20pm till 11pm. But still a good 1.30hrs.
Did I really expect too much from him?cos his tutor and therapist keep stressing that he must learn to do this and that. I thought I m just reinforcing what he was taught.
Er.... Double E, i can understand your good intentions and a mother's desperation. :hugs: But 1.5 hrs is really too long to \"push\" the child. At 3 yo, he needs his rest and sleep to grow. In fact, that's a good time for him to wind down, read a book with mommy/daddy?
In fact, 15-20mins is good for desk activity or any activities, esp for someone so young. Don't \"over push\" that he may burn out even before he reaches P1. -

Yes, my boy's tutor provides the same type of support as your daughter's. Then I should consider her as a Special needs therapist instead of a 'tutor'. Hmm, your therapist sounds very similar to mine. Could it be the same person?

Normally, my sessions with him is about 45mins to an hour. We over run on that night because I was just so determined to get him to write a proper 'd'. Don't know what came over me. But true enough, the next day when he went for his OT, his OT also mentioned that his grip of crayons and pen is weaker as compared to the previous weeks. -
Opps, sorry ImMeeMee. I used the wrong expression in my reply to your post

ImMeeMee:
Actually based on what I read & told, language disorder is part of autism. Very rarely or never that its a stand alone condition. Not sure if this is accurate.Blokus:
Good for you blokus. If its language disorders rather than autism then the support strategies could stay more focused. -

also just to share that I sometimes negotiate with my therapist if she is asking for certain things that are beyond my daughter's level. You may like to consider talking to your therapist on the pacing so that the stress level is manageable. -

Why isn't he going therapy when u were complaining that one hr per session is insufficient?
For reading, average children read at about 5 yrs old. So don't stress yourself and your son. He's only 3. I also never teach my kids to read. I just read to them regularly. -
Blokus:
blokus, I dont think language disorder is a standalone medical condition. Then again, there are different medical conditions which could manifest as language disorders.
Actually based on what I read & told, language disorder is part of autism. Very rarely or never that its a stand alone condition. Not sure if this is accurate.
But since autism include other things like rigidity and lack of social awareness, what i meant was that you would have less things to worry about if it is ascertained that language is the only issue in your child.
Actually what your therapist shared with you sounded like there is a possibility that it is not autism? Dont mean to give false hope or anything, but if so, I would really feel happy for you.

Double E:
Know what u mean... been down the slippery road too.... many times  If I recall, mine was writing the number \"5\" when I became the deranged mom. We are all human and, despite our good intentions, we sometimes behave like \"monster mommies\". At least that's how I see myself at times.

U, like all the mommies and daddies here - are doing the best u can to help the kids as much as possible to bridge the gaps.
Just know that it is a journey and our kids will read, speak, write... at their own pace and time. And somehow, before u know it, things just start to click and fall into place. Idea is to pace the child and yourselves. It's important not to burn out in the process. :hugs: -
