Hey, congrats to your dd!!
yes, she cleared the 1st roundctct61t:
Has your DD passed the 1st round GEP test? :congrats:
If your girl clear the 1st round of GEP test, she should has the high probability to get into E/F class next year.
But this year her P3 results have been very volatile, more frightening than a roller coaster ride. I think I need to start taking high blood pressure pills....
With less than 2 weeks to go for SA2, I am really very uncertain of how she will do in her SA2. But she is still happy-go-lucky...and sometimes gives me really scary results when doing other schools' test papers....and I don't really have much time to coach her either. But the time I reach home, before 1 hour is up, she needs to sleep already....
So now I really hope for the best, but prepare for the worst :xedfingers:
Agree that your dd has a good chance of entering e/f class. My dd's e/f class has many who cleared 1st round but I do know of a few who did not get into 4e/f eventually. -

Hi,
This thread has been quite quiet recently. Guess all of us are busy with SA2 prep
Any idea if the school has some programmes for P3 girls who cleared round 1 of GEP selection, but eventually not selected for GEP? And also maybe did not manage to get into the 2 E/F class?

If your girl clear the 1st round of GEP test, she should has the high probability to get into E/F class next year.
Just to share, my girl got her GEP results back today. She cleared her round 1. But I don't think she can make it to the E/F class. Her classmates are so academically strong. Eg. English Test upon 30, the highest score are 30, average is 25 and my girl scored 24, can you imagine it's below average!
I heard from a teacher that this year the P3 girls are very strong in their work and not easy to to E/F should their score falls below 90???
Sounds about right from my dd's time 2 years back. -

Some suggestions for critical thinking (don't know whether they will help): When she gives you an answer, ask further leading questions, ie why do you think.... Then don't rush her for the answers. Let her think and if neessary, give her hints to encourage more possible answers. Actually, I think this is very time consumingyes same issue here.
Sometimes I really don't know what to do with her. I don't like to use the phrase careless mistakes anymore as it may point at a more fundamental issue, e.g. lack of eye for detail, not fully understanding the question, not thinking hard enough, give up too easily etc.
The exam questions have been structured more towards the critical thinking route, so a child who refuses to think harder, or just lack that extra \"thinking ability\" will not survive well. For example, the current P3 batch will be the pioneer batch to be under new PSLE English regime, which requires a lot of think on your feet ability.
Unfortunately I am still pulling my hair out how to teach her to think more critically, or is there a way to teach/guide at all????? :imdrowning:
Also, this is a good question to bring up at the PTM. Haha.

MW Chua… reading ur post brought back memories of my dd when she was in P3. Results were I guess quite good in P1 n 2 but in P3, her marks drop especially for maths… went down to low 60s, thats really poor cos her lowest shld be in the 70 range. She was kind of carefree and playful getting her to do sch. h/w was a challenge as she wouldnt listen to me. She wouldnt do assesment books so I gave up buying. I had to sign her to a nearby tution cte just to do sch h/w. 3 times a week. Her marks dropped alot in SA2 and that was a wake up call for all of us. DD was also surprise. I gave her holiday classes during the november holidays cos P4 was not going to be easy. Anyway in p4 she was more serious but still playful but Im glad that she started doing her sch h/w. Her Sa1 marks improved and I guess she felt motivated after seeing better scores and before SA2, i gave her old sch papers to work on for the ist time. Her SA2 score turned out better than SA1. It was in p4 that i notice she beame more competitive and upset whn her results were nt as good as her peers. P5 was a big leap but she manage to maintain her standard.
In p3 , there are still alot of late bloomers. In my dds case I notice she wsnt the same when the school swiched her to another class and she sought of missed her p1,2 classmates. Her new classmates were noisy and some were mischievous so I guess the new crowd did contribute to her change.
Anyway, time flies and primary sch life is ending just completed PSLE. I told dd tat i waited 6 yrs for today to come. … Not to worry, the school knows how to handle the kids when they get to P5. -
my dd also a late bloomer. P5 then ‘the coconut shell’ opened up. Everyday must throw stones.
At PSLE, she did better than those score higher than her when they were in P2-P5. -
:thankyou: for all of you's tips and advice!!
Very well appreciated :grphug:
I would think the journey in gradually getting our girls to \"kai-qiao\" is really not easy and very challenging....Will modify the approach as it goes...
Now just hope for the best in SA2 :xedfingers: -
The final hurdle is PSLE. Accelerate at the right timing.
I saw many students punctured at P6 compare when they were in P1-P5 level. -

Moonee, also wanted to wish your dd all the best as she ventures into a new chapter in her life - S1! If I am not wrong, she received a CO at the DSA? Congrats to her and well done to mummy
