I think (think) you can drop it, if you can't cope. MEP lessons are conducted once a week, during curriculum time for lower sec, and after curriculum time for upper sec. They will have their exams together with common tests/eoy. I have to stress that MEP is really for those who express interest in music, as I have some friends who were forced into it and can't cope as they don't like it.
      Good luck! 🙂

Students from schools who are official MOE MEP centers may not be allowed to drop so easily. Need to apply via school to MOE for approval. Usually approved only under extenuating circumstances. I think usually the only time MOE allow with a little more leniency is during the 1st term of Sec 1

So do think through carefully first. .

      Hi Phankao,
Thanks for your advice. I used to see your name in the KP's website. I know you are quite an experienced mum and if I'm not wrong, I think your child is taking MEP. I'm taking this time to find out more about the MEP before the release of the PSLE result. May I know when we need to decide whether to take MEP and exactly, how is the work load like for those who are taking it. I need this information for me to think carefully. Hope you can advise. Thank you.

My dd had just finished taking her PSLE. I'm now trying to get more information on MEP as I'm thinking of choosing MEP for in Sec 1. I had read the MEP brochure but still have further clarifications? Is it true that once you have chosen MEP, you will not be able to drop it later on if you have problem in coping? Can someone whose dc is taking MEP care to confirm. I would also like to know how frequent is the MEP class per week? Is it easy to pass? How frequent are the test and exam? Does it take up a lot of time/stressful?

Thank you.[/quote]I do not have any child who has done MEP in SNGS, I'm afraid - that's why didn't want to comment on the practice in SNGS' MEP at first (altho' my daughter is an \"old girl\" of SNGS). I do have a Sec 3 boy doing MEP but in a Non-MEP center and I had a Sec 1 boy who was in MEP in a MEP center school but withdrew, so I have some experience there lah.

Generally you apply for MEP at the Sec School Posting day when you report to the sec school, or the few days after. If any auditions/tests required, it'd be within that week before new school year starts. I'm quite sure SNGS practices that too.

Workload - that other person already commented. Once a week extra lesson? Maybe about 2.5hrs extra a week? My boy who's doing MEP in a non-MEP centre has longer hours. 4hrs extra a week for his music elective (2hrs twice a week outside general curriculum time), so MEP schools have it easier!

            Hi Phankao,
Do you mind to share why your Sec 1 boy withdrew MEP? This is also one of my concerns.

Not good fit for him since he plays Chinese Instruments.

Is this true that certain % are going to transfer to another sch? especially those who scored 260 above in their 2011 PSLE
