Then, I think what we are saying is the same, 3boys. Just that you have added another dimension - the different roles we play n our life. For my posts above, I didn't dissect who I am into the roles I play in my life. While what I say maybe a little different in terms of the words or tone used, but essentially I am saying the same thing.

Perhaps, but I don't agree that the persona one uses in public is the same one that one uses in private. Therefore, a civil servant should generally not be held to account for his private life but is accountable for what he says in public. And FB, is public.

I personally find the consequences a little too harsh. But well, perhaps killing the chicken to warn the monkeys.

How truthful one portrays in the cyberway depends very much on one's social status lah... if one is an ordinary folk, living an ordinary life, staying in a mass neighborhood, doing what the rest of the ordinary folks are doing; then, of course one is comfortable to be as truthful to share/reveal one's true self... This, the paradox of socio-psychology, comfortably being among the mass and yet would like to be known of the difference, and yearn to stand out...


Try if one is living in Leedon Park Road or Chatsworth Road, no way he/she is going to rant about his neighborhood in any online forum...

Also, if one is the Chairman of UOB, you think he'll share/reveal what his work, his office, his colleagues, his neighborhood or his lunch and dinner places?

The higher the social status of a being, the more they have to protect. Another paradox.

But the political climate is such, very difficult to carry such baggage. Right now if you work for civil service or quasi-governmental agency, better keep well beyond the pale.

Our society is very harsh and mean-spirited, both Amy Cheong and her critics are embodiment of that. In another forum, there is all this vitriol about her being married to a foreigner, all spoken without irony despite the fact that it is exactly the same kind of racism and stereotyping that the protagonist is at fault for.
