My child did not do well for English for Term 1 & Term 2. The recent assignment my child wrote well but did not get a high mark. I think for Sec 1 the expectations are too high.Any child should be given some room as he/she is undergoing the transition from primary to secondary.

Yesterday had a talk with my DD maths' teacher. I was informed that the last Maths paper wasn't too difficult. DD's teacher is proactive, she talked to those who did badly or very badly the reason why they could not do the paper. General feedback was not enough time for this group of students who did not do well.


Whilst going through each and every question with them, she felt that they had forgotten things taught early this year and that maybe they revised only the later topics learnt. But this test covered the year's work.

Some were tired out cos of boarding.

I am of course disappointed that my DD did not do well, but with her coping with boarding, doing her laundry at past 10 pm as her laundry was rejected, ironing her uniform there (whereas at home the helper irons her clothes), attending prep lessons, house meetings, stressed waking up daily (as opposed to us mointoring her and waking her up if she is at home), sleeping past 11 pm daily there, and Maths being her weak subject, what can I say..... and yes, their Maths is not something of that being taught or covered in mainstream schools, so says the teacher.

Take everything that has happened as a learning process. With these unexpected events, you will see your child matures and becomes more independent, a trait that will serve her well in adulthood.

IMO maths is built upon each year's work. What is taught last year becomes the foundation of this year's work. If your child did not understand last year work, then there is a problem that needs urgent solution.

I know that a centre at Bt Timah Plaza has a tutor who used to teach Maths in NJC as a lecturer many years ago and a centre at Clementi Mall which claims they have a few Maths teachers who taught in NJC. You might want to check them out.

My DD and I like their LA very much. I find that it builds them in critical thinking and teaches them to express and answer in a mature way, good for GP next time. It really is a great depart from the Primary School, but I believe the training now will build and prepare them for the skills in year 6. As the Mentor mentioned, they will get the hang of it, some picking up faster than the other.

In whatever grading she gets (good or bad), I told her to just continue to work hard as she has 6 years to prepare, just like she took 6 years to prepare and sit for her PSLE.

One thing is for sure, she is very very happy here and very settled, despite the challenging curriculum.

My DS also enjoying his LA. He is doing ok, but by my standard lah.....maybe by other standards not good enough :rotflmao: Agree that most importantly he is being prepared for his A levels and this is just a process he has to go through. In every test and exams, there must always be a 1st and a last, that is life and we should not be bothered by it.

If the child uses DSA to enter NJC and subsequently get about 240 for psle… will the child struggle in catching up? Can experienced experts who had this experience share please?

The registration for the school tours were closed last Monday though. Also, the tour most likely will be a 1.5 hour one, so be prepared! (I'll be one of the tour guides there! )

I highly doubt so. While I may not be an expert, I have many schoolmates who came in from DSA with a PSLE aggregate score of 240+ and they still manage to excel in their school work.

with so many other schools now offering IPs. do you think NJC cutoff will be lower?
