P5 Science syllabus
-
Hi
My ds will be P5 next year and his tuition for P5 Science topics commenced from Nov 09.
His tuition centre started the P5 topics with water cycles. However, I have heard that other centres started topics relating to cells.
I read that water cycles is from the component CYCLE whereas cell is from SYSTEM. I am not sure if his tuition centre is doing the right order on the topics.
Please advise. Is there an order of the topics for the P5 syllabus?
Thanks in advance

It really depends on what textbook you are using. Actually, I don't really think that the order matters, as in the end your child will still learn the topics, regardless of the order. However, I do agree that cells will be the first topic to be taught.Hi

The order of topics taught is not that important as long as the school or tuition covers the syllabus stated by MOE.
For my dd in p5 next year, she will be taught
term1: cells, reproduction in plants, reproduction in animals.
term2: water cycle, (all topics related to water) -
It depends on which school you were in. My friend transfered her child from a top school in the west to another Hokkien Huay Kuan school in the north in end of Term 1. Former school did not teach life cycle in P3 and not in Term 1 P4… the latter school has already covered Life cycle in p3. Mum quickly start tuition for the child BUT the tuition centre has already covered Life Cycle in p3. Fortunately the tuition teacher agreed to help out by giving the child some revision on Life Cycle and that helps for CA2 and SA2. Child did not do that well for SA1. So it might be good to check with the school or friends with children in p5 in current year.

Hi JonC
Thanks! will check it out.
Hi starlight 1968sg
Thanks! You have got the syllabus from your dd’s school ? I tried to call my ds’ school but the office said that the HOD on leave till after Christmas.
Hi 2centsworthy
My ds was in the same situation as your friend’s child this year because his tuition centre and his school have a different order of topics taught for the first half of the year. I find that his school taught very little in Science and has to rely on tuition for more input. Hence his SA1 was affected. That was the reason why I am quite concerned over the order of topics. I probably have to ask around the current P5 children from the same school. Thanks! -
Anyone can recommend any good P5 Science tuition in upper bukit timah or bukit panjang area, my d simply have no interest in science. Any good tutor around, please let me now.
