Are you a sec2 RGS student? If so, how's life at RGS? Very competitive? Stressful? Fun? Tiring? How do you find the teachers there? Caring? How's the Chinese standard at RGS? (ie. if you are taking HCL). Any idea what's the lit book for year 1 (2009)? For those who got a place at the school via Sports, are they grouped in the same class? How many classes are there per level? How many P.E lessons are there in a week?

i’m a sec2, going on sec 3 next year.
life at rgs isnt that stressful but can be quite packed
there are "peak seasons" when we have close deadlines for PTs (performance tasks), with SAs coming up. To top it off, there are always the cca sessions that end late with third language classes to go for on other days.
Thats why many rgs girls sleep as late as 12pm+ or 1pm++ on weekdays.
But with effective time planning, sleeping late can be avoided:D

The teachers are quite caring(:
Honestly the Chinese standard isnt too good at RGS. There are of course people who excel in Chinese, but mainly they were from PRC or are locals who really read a lot of Chinese materials (eg. newspapers, articles)

The Lit book for year 1… if I’m not wrong, I think we had to buy a book called "A Sense of Belonging" which is a collection of short stories and a book of poetry called "Appreciating Poetry".

For those who were sports-dsa students, they are not all grouped in the same class.

the no. of pe lessons depends on whether its an odd-week/even week
sometimes it’s one lesson, sometimes it’s two lessons.

There are 13 classes in her level, the PSLE high scorer and GEP students will be grouped in the last 4 classes. The school does not groupt all the sports DSA students in one class, but the students from the same sport are allocated in the same class. For example, tennis DSAs will be one class, and table-tennis DSAs will be in another class.
They have three PE lessons in 2 weeks.
I would say the teachers are good.

:!: OMG, they are still using this book for literature???? I think I still have this book stashed somewhere in my books collection. This was and still is one of my favourite books. Having said this, I would think over so many years, so many award winning books could make it to the literature list, so I am shocked to know that this is still the same literature book I used to study at Sec 1. :oops:

I understand that you are both current RGS girls. Thanks for your previous sharing.

Other than academics, I would like to find out more about leadership opportunities and roles available to Sec 1 girls eg. class chairperson/vice chairperson/student leaders etc. (any others?)
1. Can interested pupils apply for the various posts? How are selections made?
2. Is there a fixed number of vacancies per class or do numbers vary depending on the quality of the candidates?
3. Are class chairpersons changed every term like in some Sec schools or do they remain for the whole year?
4. Do student leaders continue in Sec 2?
5. What about peer leaders and the student congress - are they open to Sec 1s?

I would greatly appreciate any sharing on this topic from any RGS girls or their parents. Thank you in advance.
