NYGH has a good history of bilingualism. While RGS girls are very smart and are well capable of high standard chinese, I suspect the general environment there is still subconsciuosly bias and most of the students speak English there. NYGH is certainly a good choice.

When the role of China and US changed and China become a consumption-based economy, the whole world will have to, generally, tilt towards chinese language speaking as everybody have to sell things or provide services to them. Even though China has registered spectacular growth in the past two decades, it has only now truly turned to become to true net consumptor and this is significant.

I share the same sentiment. :thankyou:

Some people mentioned that the chinese standard at RGS isn't too good, & my dd had chosen NYGH over RGS partly for this reason.

i was told that in rgs, the girls there don't use mandarin to communicate as it is deem \"low class\" by them (unless during chinese lesson).

              Oh my! \"Low Class\"?!

I think NanYang Girls High is better. Those students who are eligible to study in NYGH are definitely capable of using english and chinese fluently (or else they can't enter this school). Thus, you don't have to worry about your dd have problems with english once she entered the school. šŸ™‚

Found this in the RGS discussion thread:

                unflappable_chicken:
                hey(:

                i'm a sec2, going on sec 3 next year.
life at rgs isnt that stressful but can be quite packed
there are \"peak seasons\" when we have close deadlines for PTs (performance tasks), with SAs coming up. To top it off, there are always the cca sessions that end late with third language classes to go for on other days.
Thats why many rgs girls sleep as late as 12pm+ or 1pm++ on weekdays.
But with effective time planning, sleeping late can be avoided:D

                The teachers are quite caring(:
Honestly the Chinese standard isnt too good at RGS. There are of course people who excel in Chinese, but mainly they were from PRC or are locals who really read a lot of Chinese materials (eg. newspapers, articles)

The Lit book for year 1.. if I'm not wrong, I think we had to buy a book called \"A Sense of Belonging\" which is a collection of short stories and a book of poetry called \"Appreciating Poetry\".

For those who were sports-dsa students, they are not all grouped in the same class.
there were 13 classes for my level

the no. of pe lessons depends on whether its an odd-week/even week
sometimes it's one lesson, sometimes it's two lessons.

                hope this helps(:
the chinese standard in RGS is not that high...

Well, I wanted to go to nanyang as well but alot of my teachers advised me to go RGS because of the gd programmes there
                    Hi StudentABC,

Which school have you chosen? RGS or NYGH? Both schools are good. I understand how you feel.

Yes that's right. Unless they fail so badly to be kicked out...
