I think somedays they need to find that rhythm in them? My son had to jump on every strip on the pavement. Even tip toe to get pass it. Extremely frustrating when we are in a rush. Argh.

Maybe it's just one of the off days, we have off days too and want to do things a bit differently. Maybe tomorrow he'll be fine again. Cheer up!

thanks mushy, the other day at the clinic, he also fuss and refuse to go into the doctor room. sat down on the floor and scream. i got to be really thick skin, ignore all the stares and struggled and pick up my 20kg son... i wonder how many more years can i keep doing that. he will be bigger than me one day..

Haha, I have now mastered the high level of thick skin already. I don't care that my son is screaming and crying on the floor. I simply walk to him and tell him firmly to stop the nonsense and I will start counting. He will usually try to calm himself down after that. I'm also practicing that on my NT gal now. Lol. But think my gal more difficult to handle. Sigh.

Yesterday, the two kids were creating such a din at the back of the car, screaming and shouting at each other. I had to tell them to keep quiet till we reach home. They immediately shut up. guess it's also a good thing that they are scared of me. I'm the stern mummy who won't think twice about beating their butts.

U r right some therapist are kind. I see rainboW therapist gotten knock by a child nose bleed she still did not show anger. If me who gotten knock so badly I will accidentally kick the child due to human nature in defense .

Few months back my son accidentally knock on his teacher I tell the teacher is ok my son don't feel the pain. Guess what she replies , she say he no pain I pain u know.. I say sorry to her

My girl OT used to be at HPB at Outram. But I find that no much use so I stopped after going there for 1mth. Anyway they go by blocks also. Then ARC called me up last mth saying got vacancy so my girl just started at ARC end of last mth. But ARC do not have ST and OT

So I still have to continue her ST at Leapfrog. For OT, I will just bring her to playground, cut cost. She is improving slowly. Now can start asking questions, request for things. Can start to express herself and talk about her surroundings.

I also noticed that mainstream teachers are less tolerance towards kids with special needs. But I cannot blame them cos they were not taught how to handle such kids. My girl faced some discrimination in certain ways. But no choice, I can only afford to send her to mainstream nursery.

She is still seeing DAN but not really on a frequent basis. Got money then go.
It's usually just eating supplements for healthier body. I think continuous therapies and practicing at home is still the best solution for our kids to improve. There's no quick easy method. It's a marathon.

I'm not sure if this happens to all schs or even all classes with autistic kids. For my boy's mainstream pri sch, he has an AED attached to his class. This AED is with the class for maths and English and she will make sure my boy does his work etc. I don't need to pay a cent. She's like a shadow teacher during lesson time. My greatest worry when he first started sch was more of the unstructured time like recess when there is no supervision and he doesn't have a routine to follow to. I pv with the sch for the first two weeks during recess and once weekly after that to check on him. The form teacher has somehow put to the children to watch over him during recess time. So someone will always be eating with him. End of recess, if he doesn't appear in the hall, someone will go and get him from the canteen. His best buds now are his recess pals who eat with him, even share food with him and play with him.

Perhaps when looking for a mainstream school, u can check on the level of support they have for special needs kids. In my boy's sch, there are a lot of AED staff.

I'm so worried about mine! ONE AED who specialises in Dylexia. I called her twice to meet up with her and the VP (who is supposed to call me on the allocation of classes) and she assured me that the VP will arrange the meeting with me by October latest...till now...nothing!

Anyone whose kid has a very short focus in group setting and any tactics to counter this?

can i rant? just when i say my boy is turning better, he acting out again today.. suddenly refuse to cross the road at the traffic light . ask him why he dun want to say. after 3 rounds of green man then he cross. then next while crossing the zebra crossing, a car stop for us and he sat down and refuse to cross. really dunno whats wrong with him today.

I can identify with that too. My boy had to step on this metal covering the oil hole every morning otw to school and he would go banging on the cover with his feet. My girl would follow suit. HENG it was covered with cement lately. And some days when we throw toilet paper into the waste paper basket, he can raise such a din because \"toilet paper must be thrown into the toilet bowl\"!!!

Is phonics important ? I never teach my son before , cuz myself always very clueless how phonics works ...


He only know how to spell

Well, during my time, I never learnt phonics but still figured out reading and spelling I guess phonics has become somewhat a must go through learning route is because most schools are adopting it due to the need for accelerated learning. If a child has very good memory, IMO, it's fine to go through the memory route. As long as the end objective is met. Not all words can be read using phonics, eg sight words and funny words like stomach etc.

For feeling my son only say "I’m angry" when he is upset when I don’t him

ARC stands for Autism Resource Centre. It only accepts kids who are diagnosed with autism. It is one of the government EIPIC. Besides ARC, there's also Rainbow, AWWA, Feiyue, SPD, Thye Hua Kwan etc which accepts kids with other forms of disabilities.


Actually I didn't really train her much at home. I'm mainly using pictures and I try to explain to her the expressions of the people in the pics. Eventually I think she get the idea and soon she is able to say she is happy, sad and scare. But so far she has not been able to say that she is angry. Usually when she is angry, she will start crying out loudly

She only started to talk about people and things happening around her last month only. What I did is to talk excessively and unnecessary. Even when I walk with her, I will just comment 'look at the road, it is rough! Or look at my left side, there's grass. It's green in colour! Look at the sky, it's blue colour. I see clouds up in the sky.' Its a lot of rubbish talking to normal people.

Now she started to learn to become more aware, look around and making comments on the things she saw and observed.

There's pros and cons ever since she has become more aware of her surrounding. Con is she has also started to make insensitive remarks which could make me feel like digging a hole to hide my head. Two weeks ago there's was a very big tall oversize American guy walking towards her in the therapy centre. She exclaimed very loudly infront of him \"Oh my god, you are so fat!\". I grabbed a magazine besides me and held up the magazine very near my face to hide my embarassement :oops:
