My girl OT used to be at HPB at Outram. But I find that no much use so I stopped after going there for 1mth. Anyway they go by blocks also. Then ARC called me up last mth saying got vacancy so my girl just started at ARC end of last mth. But ARC do not have ST and OT

So I still have to continue her ST at Leapfrog. For OT, I will just bring her to playground, cut cost. She is improving slowly. Now can start asking questions, request for things. Can start to express herself and talk about her surroundings.

I also noticed that mainstream teachers are less tolerance towards kids with special needs. But I cannot blame them cos they were not taught how to handle such kids. My girl faced some discrimination in certain ways. But no choice, I can only afford to send her to mainstream nursery.

She is still seeing DAN but not really on a frequent basis. Got money then go.
It's usually just eating supplements for healthier body. I think continuous therapies and practicing at home is still the best solution for our kids to improve. There's no quick easy method. It's a marathon.

I'm not sure if this happens to all schs or even all classes with autistic kids. For my boy's mainstream pri sch, he has an AED attached to his class. This AED is with the class for maths and English and she will make sure my boy does his work etc. I don't need to pay a cent. She's like a shadow teacher during lesson time. My greatest worry when he first started sch was more of the unstructured time like recess when there is no supervision and he doesn't have a routine to follow to. I pv with the sch for the first two weeks during recess and once weekly after that to check on him. The form teacher has somehow put to the children to watch over him during recess time. So someone will always be eating with him. End of recess, if he doesn't appear in the hall, someone will go and get him from the canteen. His best buds now are his recess pals who eat with him, even share food with him and play with him.

Perhaps when looking for a mainstream school, u can check on the level of support they have for special needs kids. In my boy's sch, there are a lot of AED staff.

I'm so worried about mine! ONE AED who specialises in Dylexia. I called her twice to meet up with her and the VP (who is supposed to call me on the allocation of classes) and she assured me that the VP will arrange the meeting with me by October latest...till now...nothing!

Anyone whose kid has a very short focus in group setting and any tactics to counter this?

Then call her to check? I didn't meet the AED and the teacher until sch opened for two weeks. In fact the teacher assignment was also random. I didn't even meet the principal and VP at all. Dyslexia is different leh... Hopefully they have increased more AED staff by now. So far so good and we didn't have to see the senior management.

My son also very short attn span. But heard from his teacher he has improved tremendously. Previously she started a reward chart to get him started on his work. Now she doesn't need to use it anymore coz he has become auto already. No need to run after him and make him do his work. Chinese more difficult coz that teacher didn't believe in rewarding for good behaviour. So it didn't start on a good step. While e form teacher gave him AV responsibilities, the Chinese teacher refused to let him touch anything. So he was pretty confused for a while coz he thought he could do that in class and the Chinese teacher kept scolding him for touching the AV equipment. Had to explain to him that different teachers work differently and he shouldn't assume that permission from one teacher means permission from all. Well, nearly a year is over. So happy it's been rather good in terms of schooling. Not top of the class but not in the bottom either.

hi mummies, i have a 3.5yo asd boy. no speech yet so it is always one way conversation. recently he sang abc song. incomplete and not clear. probably nobody can understand except me. it sounded so wonderfully. made my day. he has sensory issues and can be quite rough whilst playing. sometimes he will hit my eyes that i see stars. but i am extremely thankful that he has no issue on touch and that i can hug him, kiss him everyday to let him know that his mummy loves him very much

Thanks for this. Sometimes, I'd have doubts if I'd be short-changing my son, especially during the days when he's like an angel. However, whenever I see how happy he is to go to Rainbow(vs his mainstream child care) and how different the teachers' attitudes in the institutions are, I feel that I have to let him have a happy childhood.... Anyway, I haven't received any notification from PL on the enrollment. If he doesn't get in there, I'd treat it as a message from God and let him go to the primary school, with a shadow teacher if the school allows. It'd be more mentally and emotionally taxing for him and me, not to mention financially draining!

From the briefing at PL, it appears that if deemed suitable, the children in \"foundation\" may be promoted to \"standard P1\" during the school term. Otherwise, the students in foundation would be promoted to standard P1 in the following year.

Thanks for the advice, Mashy. The primary school which i have registered him for is supposed to have very good learning support, from what I heard from the other parents with special needs kids studying there.

For those of you who are interested in biomedical interventions (like DAN!), you can look for Dr. Erwin Kay. He has 2 clinics, and my son goes to the one at Paragon, called Amelio Clinic. Be prepared though: biomed is quite taxing for the care-giver and the child, as well as expensive. And it'd really help if your child can swallow capsules (sometimes as big as \"Panadol extra\").

I didn't use it for my own kids but have heard good reviews about it.

They will teach phonics in school too. Mine was taught in school. I think if u aren't very good with phonics, better don't teach in case you teach the wrong things. Just do simple reading everyday will do.

My boy just started seeing a Dan in august. I have been cleaning up his diet for past 9months. He used to eat lots of junks due to my ignorance.

Ya lor. Still so young. For my 3 yr old gal, I’m just reading books that goes ‘I like ice cream. I like slides. I like dolls.’ Very simple ones. Most kids actually start reading by sight and not phonics. My boy started with whole words. He is one of those early readers so I’m trying very hard not to compare my gal with him. My gal talk talk talk and totally not keen in reading. Sigh. I think those who can talk very well can’t read and those who can’t talk very well can read very well.

Arielmermaid, I was choosing between dr Kay n dr sundardas. In the end I decided to see dr s. The test can be quite ex ya. Super heartache after each visitation. there is no big tablet given to my son though. Mostly liquid form or capsules that u can open it n mix with drinks

Yup, super expensive. But I think the tests are important as a starting point and forms the basis of the supplementation. So jme, how effective do you think this biomed intervention is?

During the first day of supplementation, when my son still couldn't swallow capsules, I tried to open the capsules and let him eat the powder (with some beverage). However, the taste was terrible and he ended up vomitting. Thank goodness that on the second day, he managed to swallow capsules. It was much easier then.
