Yes la, business tactics. They must have thought even no 20% discount, business is still at brisk. Why earn lesser when they can earn more?

These days, where else we can go with almost everything under one roof?

I've already done that, not once but twice.
Which parent is in the mood for buying assessment in the midst of SA2 preparation ??? Popular is already market leader...no one can compete with it. Can't it do charity by giving discount in Dec ?

But hor, they earn more from me when they did the 20% store wide discount for like a month in jun12. Rather than using the 20% discount voucher in which I need to geng, geng and geng how to maximize the use of the voucher but end up buying only less than $200, I think I will spend more if they do storewide discount for a month! I just pop in every now and then and leave the shop with $30-40 purchase per trip (that was what happened in jun).

Popular Expo sale going on. Missed the first day for members on 15/10. Sale ends 18/10. This sale is held during the 4 days of PSLE marking…doubt any of us will think of assessment books now.


Daughter has her English exam this Fri.

After dropping my ds to his class, I went popular to buy an eng Grammer book and ask the cashier on the 20% thingy, she say that there will not be another 20% for this yr. it has changed to sep once a yr discount instead of twice yearly.

I also did not use the 20% discount effectively.

Same here...last day of voucher was on 30th of Sep. Was revising Chinese with son that Sun. But didn't want to 'waste' it, so just walked around to get some stationery.

IMO, Popular Holdings should do some homework before issuing vouchers. The target market is mainly students. So to issue vouchers during exam periods esp year end SA2 is really silly.

But if want to give, then do so willingly...or else don't give.
Already market leader, nobody to compete with.
When my son was in P1, my friend told me must apply for popular member once i receive his student card, bcos i will definitely need to buy assessment books or stationery. It started with 20% in June and Dec. March and Sep will have expo sale. Dec Book fest. Now, so miserable.
