I have a question. Suppose somebody in a private conversation amongst friends or relatives spout some non-sensical racist tirade. Suppose somebody else records it and then posts it online. Who do you think is more culpable? The person who spoke the racist tirade or the person who recorded and posted it online?

Now, suppose the first somebody instead of saying it in a conversation, posted it momentarily on his/her facebook page. Suppose somebody else who is a ‘friend’ takes a screenshot of it and then posts the screenshot somewhere else or submits it to Stomp, causing that otherwise obscure facebook page of a nobody to go viral. Who is more culpable, the person whose facebook page was screenshot or the the person who took and publicized the screenshot?

In the first case, the initial conversation was fleeting. In the second case, the original post in the otherwise obscure facebook page could have been deleted quietly before it causes offence to a wide segment of the population. In both cases, it was the recording/screenshot which publicized it and made it permanent and unremoveable so that the contents are spread far and wide. So, who is more culpable if it causes widespread offence?

Does your case in the 1st para not bring us to the recent one regarding this drunk undergrad spouting racist nonsense?
What he did is certainly not right, even under intoxication...but the fellow who circulated the video definitely have BAD intent!!

I understand she would have to live with this...but don't cause such discord among Singaporeans mah...we have lived in harmony with Malays, Indians and other races all these years.

Her rant will not be causing much discord lah. If those words can so easily cause discord, I question the 'harmony' that you speak of. Those who do not hold the same views as her will condemn her rant but those who already harbour such thoughts will of course 'like' or agree with her.

And if we are really very very honest with ourselves, we do hold some of such views about different people. Just that we have the sense not to rant so publicly and on a platform where the rant can be replicated.

She has paid for her folly. Condemn the action but not the person.

              That's what I felt also.

Obviously.. she's just ranting.. The most she can do it to make the Malays hate HER and herself for being snob or whatever..

NOW.. the one that is trying to sow discord is the blogger! Why not action against that fellow?

What he means by something to the tune of \"The Chinese is being less tolerance or other minority races?\" There is no justification for that comment.. Only ONE person kpkb and he is making such a false sweeping statement.

Is he NOT trying to sow discord by virtue of that comment? He is trying to make the other races hate all Chinese! He doesn't seems to target amy only.

WHY is ALL the arrows on amy and not that blogger?
