Just wonder... Those kids who find maths easier - is it because they attend MO training classes. Such classes are common these days.

Both my children do not go for MO classes. They found maths tougher than English. Wonder shld I send ds2 for MO class? Any comments fr anyone.
Pls enlighten what is MO? Thanks

Precisely. These so-called GEP preparatory courses are mainly to help students stretch their thinking skills and expose them to different concepts. I believe the GEP questions are not revealed to the public, so how would these centres know what exactly to teach?
Maybe not so for the questions but the nature of some questions is not a secret. Just realised that after the tests.

I don't really believe in the gep preparatory class. How to prepare the kids when u don't even know wat kind of questions they are testing? My 2 children went through the round 2, none can really recall the questions.

The centres probably ask their current students to tell them the questions asked in the papers in preparation for the next batch. My DD always come home after her papers and asks me if her answers were right. She can tell me almost every single word of the questions asked.

And By the way, keep the rd 2 invitation properly. Even if u donch get into gep, I think it'll still help in dsa.

                Cheers!

To make the gep test fairer, I think we shld not reveal any of the questions. Having said tt, I also do not have any idea on the nature of questions tested.

MO classes seem more like an advanced math program than something to help children find maths interesting. Rather it should be those who find math interesting that would like to join MO.

Perhaps you should ask what tickles your children's fancy? How would they find math more interesting to want to learn more about it than just doing sums and repeated practices.

The key is not to have kids already know the questions before attempting them so they will say they find it easy, but rather, that they have the interest and curiosity to learn, so given a new topic, they find the joy in learning how the problem was solved, and thus find learning it easy.

                      Cheers.

In any case, have to remind our kids not to take the tests so seriously. If one has given all his/her best, take the failure in stride and move on..one must learn to overcome failure and realise that life is more than just getting good grades

U can't call it a failure when another 8 out of 10 also donch get chosen eventually!

No one is a failure here. They are top 10% of the P3 cohort. To get there is already an achievement.

Those that get in are really the Cream de la cream-1%. They r then given different exposure.

So please don't call your DS or DD failures should they not make it. They r a part of us.. If u call them as such, aren't u also one!! No offence.[/quote] :salute: Of course no..I dun mean they are failure if they did not get into GEP..I meant \"unable to get into GEP\"..kids shd not take that to heart..
We were unprepared for my gal to clear round1 since she is not the top student quality. So getting the invitation to take part in the selection test was really a bonus and \"eye-opener\" for us..I hope this will spur my gal to believe in herself and that nothing is impossible
