To me, the GEP is like an IQ test. If your average IQ is 140, can you improve your average IQ to 160 by simply doing more work sheets or attending extensive courses?

The answer is no. You can maybe improved by 5-10 but at the end of the day, you cannot hide the fact that your average IQ is still 140. Nothing can change that.

Just like an athlete taking steriods to win a competition. You may win it one time and avoid detection. But in the end, you cannot simply take steriods and continue to win forever. Sooner or later, the reality will come back and haunt you.

So you can get into GEP by taking those courses, but in the end, if you are not what you are, you will suffer. If you are gifted, then you are gifted. If you are not, then you are not. It's not the end of the world.

Whoa, you're practically linking parents who send their kids for prep course as cheaters! :yikes:

On another note, would you consider students who go for normal enrichment [to prepare for SA2] as steroid-takers too?

        :scratchhead:

students who go for normal enrichment [to prepare for SA2] would equal to an athlete going for regular routine training?

        😄

😄[/quote]Fully agree! If you can run, going for regular training will help you improve. Over training will injure you. But not training is a waste of talent.

That said, CMI people like me, train and train also won't be able to run! :rotflmao:

Actually it's not about the raw score but how your kid will fair against the rest.

So just sit back and wait for the release of result lor.

if we try to split hair here we will never be able to see where the line between black and white… we can only voice our views but can’t change how others think… to each his own…

GEP and PSLE (or exams) are two totally different things. A kid can score well in exams if you just let him/her do thousands of assessment books. In Singapore, paper qualifications are good. That is why many people will go down this route and there is nothing wrong with it. Doing well in exams is important for all students in Singapore, be it in primary or in university.

However, to be gifted is something different. You cannot simply force someone to be gifted. Which is why the GEP screening test is open to all P3 students. It doesn’t matter whether a kid did well in the exams or not. Exams alone cannot identify the gifted ones.

I am not saying that going for GEP prep courses is cheating. But at the end of the day, aren’t you just deceiving yourself?

What about pple who buy GEP assessment books [from Popular] and train their kids themselves. Do you consider them as deceiving themselves as well?
