I have the same qn too. My DS intends to take on 2 RAs. With boarding sch term next year and his 2 ccas plus 3rd language, and musical interests, I am a little worried abt his workload next yr. Being keenly interested in several pursuits doesn't address the fact tt there are only 24 hrs in a day.

I know a couple of RI boys who are doing 2 RAs, 2CCAs, 3rd lang. They are coping well. Then again, these boys are very disciplined and very bright. At the end of the day it depends on your son's character and calibre. Maybe your son can go seek out his seniors and speak to them?

Tks for advice. I did tell him to find out from seniors how it's really like doing 2 RAs. My son knows several who do. However, he is the type who marches to his own beat. I hope it's not a case of over confidence. In any case, he can just drop one of it, I suppose, if he realises there is too much to juggle. Or as u also mentioned, the sch will make him drop RA if he isn't doing well. I just hope for the best tt he won't struggle too much but to enjoy the learning process. Will wait till early nov to see if his applications are successful.

Dear RI boys parents,


DS is offered CO from RI. Both DS and myself have attended RI open house in May. However, sad to say, other than RI’s achievement, we don’t seem to have gather other information. Henceforth, I would like to try on RI KS thread to see if we can get to know more about RI.

Can daddies & mummies share about your experience with RI’s teacher? How’s their relationship with the boys? I heard that RI teachers do not provide much guidance to the boys. The boys are expected to be very independent even when they’re in year 1. Is this true?

How are RI school events being organised? Is it mainly by the teachers? Or are the boys given the chance to organise the events? Every boy will be given equal chance or only those "better ones" are selected?

How about the seniors? Are they willing to lend their helping hands when the junior approach them?

As I’ve heard more info about the other boys’ school, I thought I should gather more info for RI too so that DS can have better understanding of both schools before he makes his decision next week.

I think it is not true that the trs did not guide the students. I see that there are notes given. My child learned fr the trs, I guessed since he has no tuition except for Chinese. Even for Chinese, I think the problem lies more with his attitude rather than the sch. Ds is happy in ri, esp, this year. I can see him grow and he is much much independent now. He has a very good form tr this year. The teacher acted upon my feedback to her during PTM. I am impressed. So there are dedicated trs in ri too. I would say most of his trs are generally good this year. No complaints.

What do you mean by 'equally good'?

Not too sure what I want to ask too. maybe equally good as in the sense that all the different RAs subjects have very interesting program that are worth spending the time and effort. Personally I believe in a more holistic Ed in yr 1 to yr 4. Rest assured, my child applied for RA because he has the passion and nothing else. Not too sure whether he will get it anyway. So far, I can see the teachers have been quite committed. As ds chinese has always been his weakest, his Chinese teacher is very encouraging and gives practical suggestion how to improve in his writing. Even leading to the two days till chinese exam, she still bothered to ask ds and three others to stay back after the exams to prepare them for next day Chinese paper.

Also, Math teacher has been very committed too - I see tonnes of worksheets/past year paper to try. Ds couldn't even find the time to complete all of them. And teacher really stresses on presentation of answers which I heard it's very important. Even if answer correct, presentation not correct, also minus mark.

So, generally, RI teachers quite committed. Except I wonder why other than Math, the other subj teachers do not have all past year questions (they only provide 2011 papers or 2010). But for Math, the past year questions include those all the way back to 1999!

You're welcome! Oh, the math worksheets I was referring to were the supplementary worksheets - extra practice for the boys to try. Ds said it is not compulsory to attempt all. But they are encouraged to complete as much as they can. About the presentation, yes, I'm referring to the workings. They are very particular about that.

Thank you VSP. Good to hear that the school is particular on the workings. I've been nagging at my DS when I see his working for maths. Simply couldn't stand it. :slapshead: It's number & number all over the place. Sometime, dun even know why he use those workings. I thought such presenation should start fm Pri sch. It should be set right up front.
