Population woes

FT and NCs have no voting rights. Even PRs cannot vote. And that is definitely not the reason why the govt is importing more foreign labour, be they FW or FT.it is just a vicious cycle... ppl are getting mad with the garment inviting FT and NC, so they oppose them, while on the other hand the garment feels they are losing votes and keep inviting more FT and NC to vote them... so the cycle just continues...
if we could, do anything to ease the situation, is to vote our garment by outstanding majority votes so that they could drop or reduce the number of NC coming to sg...
if that is ever possible... -

oh is it?? i heard that NC and PR can vote.. that's why i came to this conclusion..

Anyway I share WeiHan's sentiment
.WeiHan:
..and thisAren't we trying to compete on a resource that we naturally has a disadvantage? If increasing population and scale is an advantage, then we are doomed, Taipei, Shanghai, Seoul etc...can all increase scale much more easily than Singapore since their city size can expand easily within a hinterland but we can't.
WeiHan:
[/quote]And the solution is....?If I may, I'll say that sustaining economic growth by increasing population is another form of kicking the can down the road. Just like how the present quantitative easings are kicking the can down the road for US (and European Union joining the party soon) financial problems. The only difference is that altering population density artificially creates a more permanent negative impact that may not be able to reverse at all.
Wait, I know!
Ask our million dollar ministers ........ but refuse to accept their decisions. -

I thot non citizen then realise now you are referring to new citizen. New citizen can & must vote.
PRs no voting rights -

but i had the impression that PR can vote... ok now, since NC can vote, they could be invited into sg just to neutralise the votings... so does my conclusion makes some cow sense?? -
Only citizens can vote…
whether old or new… as long as >21yo… and not given up their rights to vote. -

There is no guarantee that NCs will vote incumbant. And looking at the number of eligible voters in the last election, how many do you think are NCs that their votes will make up for those that vote opposition. -
Funz:
i think so though... i mean, i feel that the only possible reason would be this, and i also feel the only way is to have majority votes over opposition to counter the increasing NC here...

i didnt really pay attention to the numbers, but i know those winnings by opposition are just by minor percentages... the NC could help since the difference is still not too big...
ya just another guess too... but it seems logical to me... -
Sighs, as a PR of Spore for 16 years and having been living here for 19…
I only have this to say, there aren’t any capable oppositions that can form a sound government, (there were candidates to presidency that was campaigning for the rights to the gov reserve, candidates that doing just countering/opposing gov’s policies, political parties that can’t quite make the cut to be the gov.)
Are we going to bet our future? Are we ready? Shouldn’t we weight carefully?
Life is much much tougher else where in the world…
And, no, PR have no voting right… This gov is still working by statutory, not just about letting anyone that favors them to vote… If so, they’ll definitely get mine! -
