There is no doubt that since independence, the govt have been a capable one. One that brought SG to where it is today.

It's been 22 years since 1st gen handed over in 1990, almost as much time as from independence to 1990. Modern Singapore, for better or worse, is shaped as much by post 1st gen leaders as much as anything else.

Again, no perspective on history, only rose tinted glasses.

It's not so much that leadership has changed, it's the people, whiny, soft, unwilling to endure, that's my view.

Actually, you can try this litmus test put forth by an ex-US president many years ago, “Are you better off than you were four years ago?”

In our case, our current leader took over some 8 years ago, in 2004. So, are we better off now than we were in 2004?

Oh, I have my doubts too whether the current govt is as capable as the 1G leaders. But that is an irrelevant question. The relevant one is whether the current opposition is as capable as the current incumbents.
