GEP 2012 - Screening & Selection

yes, I quoted their postings. I'm referring to these potential GEP kids going undiscovered but are deprived and can only access the textbooks with no other helps!

You have read too much of the context out of proportion. I didn't even mention a single word of ' GEP'. No, this is not what I meant. I was saying that poor kid who can only access the maintainers textbook and nothing else. It is not possible for them to do well and they may get into the wrong path.
I reiterate here again, you need good teaching materials, competent teachers and small class size (so that teacher can attend to), then children can study independently and do well without any additional helps from either tuition or parents.
BTW, I do not even buy in the idea of GEP is a good route to a decent education at all in the very first place. I have seen some 'products' of the GEP before and I know what to expect from them.

You quoted mum03 and 3boys in your reply. They were talking about potential GEP kids going undiscovered. When you quoted them it would be reasonable to assume the 'they' you were talking about are the undiscovered potential GEP kids right?
In any case, I agree with you if you are talking about kids from disadvantaged families. But that is a different discussion. -
Melodies:
This is also something close to my heart- disadvantaged children..but then that's another discussion altogether like what Funz mentioned. You quoted 3Boys post and continued with \"they\". His \"they\" referred to GEP kids and it's reasonable assumption that you're continuing with reference to GEP kids.I am referring to those with zero helps from teacher/parents/tuition but can only access poor textbooks. They are the deprived group and may consistently perform poorly and may end up with mixing with the wrong gang.
-
I'm not referring to officially GEP kids. I'm referring to those potential but undiscovered 'GEP' kid which is ended up in mainstreams with no helps. I didn't say that they will 100% end up in SS. I said 'MAY\".

OK, OK. No upset ok? Understand where you are coming from.
What you really mean is kids from disadvantaged background but potential GEP material. -

I don't quite get you... getting into mainstream w/o help? Meaning if it's GEP, they'll get lots of help? How so? If anything, w/o help in GEP is going to be much tougher than in mainstream.I'm not referring to officially GEP kids. I'm referring to those potential but undiscovered 'GEP' kid which is ended up in mainstreams with no helps. I didn't say that they will 100% end up in SS. I said 'MAY\".
But anyway, I'm scared of cows.. so will stop here. But I do share your sentiments about disadvantaged kids. :hi5: -
Lilac66:
I also confused. I oso scared of the cows here but I do so love my chargrilled beef.

In any case, GEP or mainstream, privileged or disadvantaged, if not given the proper guidance by parents and teachers, may go off rail. So I still don't see how not being discovered as GEP makes a diff in this case. -
I didn't say that 'not being discovered as GEP makes a diff in this case'!
I'm advocating the same set of helps/benefits to be provided fairly to mainstreamers.Funz:

For all you know, you have small class-size in GEP, good teaching materials in GEP and teacher can have close-coaching in GEP, Aren't these the helps that the GEPpers received. :? Even without any parental helps, GEP teachers and GEP branch will provide help to those GEPpers all the time. All these helps/benefits that GEPpers are getting will definitely help them to perform. In fact, these will help the mainstreamers to perform as well provided all these helps/benefits are equally provided to mainstreamers.

I’m not aware any ‘close coaching’ in GEP.

I tot you posted just a couple of pages before that you don't buy the idea that GEP is a good route to a decent education at all in the very first place [see red below]. That got me - and apparently some other forummers - all confused as you seem to be saying diff things above. :scratchhead:Melodies:
